Surfing Contest Kamala Beach 2005
Kamala Beach surfing contest for 2005 was on the 20th and 21st of August and saw a record number of local competitors from Phuket and Thailand. The atmosphere for the event was fun and the lack of waves didn't dampen the spirits of all who were there. The first day of the event started with a very high tide leaving only the shore break for competitors to show their stuff. This didn't deter anyone and after a broken board and a few back slams on the sand the first day came to an end with the best of the day praying for bigger waves tomorrow.
Day 2 of the Kamala surf contest didn't bring bigger waves it was actually smaller if that is possible. The surf heats were postphoned waiting for low tide and the contest organisers set-up some fun events. The greasy pole climb, tug of war, paddle races, and some great music kept the day rolling. A last minute decision to run the final heats of the bodyboards, longboards and beginners and to defer the open heats for another day was made.
In the evening everyone gathered at a local restaurant with live music from a local Bang Tao Band, plenty of food and of course drink. Awards were given to the days winners.
2 weeks later the open division final heats were held with some great surfing and a friendly competitive atmosphere. The final winners were Open Division Winners Grommets Bobyboard Longboard Thailand Travel Surf news Surf Gear Links Maps Photos
