Nations represented : malaysia, singapore, thailand, brazil, france, australia Rounds of 4, first 2 go to the next round Heat of 20 mns on first day ( sat. ) and 15 mns on Sunday Main sponsor : quicksilver Malaysia Type of wave : beach break ( left and right ) Conditions for the contest : sat. 2-3 feet
moderate onshore Organization very good with life guard ( jet ski ), press coverage ( newspaper + TV ) , dinner and award ceremony on Sunday , + beverages ( non alcoholic ! ) during the whole contest Nice crowd on sat . and sat due to the proximity of the city and good structures of the beach ( restaurant , parking ) Judges 2 : Shane ( Canadian surfer ) and Mr X ( sorry forgot his name ) a pro surfer from Bali ! Great after contest party at Aie 's place right on the beach…. Impressive level of the Malaysian surfer ( especially Mamat who did some nice air and 360 's ! ) , the bodyboard scene is also quite important with 20 guys ++ almost locals of the break , guys like Waki, Aie, Hatta, Omar are bodyboarding very well ! ( sorry for the guys I forgot the name….you rip anyway ! ) According to the surfers, telok Chempedak is not the best place to surf and I heard about some breack ( and saw the pix ) of very nice waves, Quarry was a name mentioned several times….
