The southern end of this Phuket beach has a
small fishing village and smaller bungalow
style accommodation, but the developers have their eyes on this area too.
Best
Western was the first of the chain hotels to open here
The headland and beach at this end of bang tao are great for an afternoon walk,
collecting shells and the sunset over the headland is something not to be missed.
When the waves are big during the monsoon season
surfers head here to surf a few waves in the southern corner
as it is more protected. More about surfing
Bang Tao Beach
This southern corner is also home
to the Phuket
Surf School. Fully certified instructors run classes here
on a daily basis.
There are now many hotels and residential developments
popping up. It wont be long before the beautiful sunsets come at a premium price.
Bang Tao Beach
The main village of Bang Tao is
one of the biggest Muslim communities on Phuket island and tasting some of the
traditional foods is a must. The evening market on the main road in the middle
of Bang Tao is definitely a place where you can try the local foods and pick up
some bargains.
The market has a fresh food, cooked food (fast
Food, Thai style) and another section with clothing, shoes etc. Be careful while
crossing the road here as it gets congested and drivers still drive at a fair
pace.
Further along the main road (Sri Soon Thorn Road) heading towards the Laguna
Phuket Complex you will enter another small town called Cheongthalay.

This area is traditionally Chinese Thai and
during the vegetarian festivals many
rituals take place here. You will see Chinese as well as Thai temples in this
diverse little village.
As you near Laguna, there are many restaurants, mini
marts, gift shops. The prices are premium and it is better to find shopping bargains
further away.
