Surfing Patong beach
Patong beach surfing conditions
Patong beach is the main entertainment centre of Phuket. It is famous for its shopping and nightlife. Patong doesn't usually pick-up the swell as well as other beaches on Phuket. The surf here is not really much to talk about as it usually closes out. The sandy bottom is quite flat and stable leaving no real channels or sand banks for the waves to break on. Usually the waves at Patong beach are more surfable on those very small clean days. The waves are fast and open to the winds. If you are going to surf at patong, the best place to look for surf at patong is at the far northern end near where the rocks start, on a small smooth day, sometimes the peaks here can get quite good. There are plenty of places to stay in Patong ranging from 12$US up, and it's a short distance to Kalim beach. Kalim Beach is probably one of the better surf breaks in Phuket.
