Stocky Hawaiian powerhouse Kekoa Bacalso has claimed ASP world titleholder status by winning the Billabong World Junior Championships held at North Narrabeen Beach, Sydney, Australia, after defeating Tahitian Michel Bourez in the all-Polynesian final.

After getting off to a slow start in the one metre (three foot) wind-blown conditions, Bacalso came home strong, locking into a walling left-breaking wave on his backhand with seven minutes to go. [/i]With his low centre of gravity, Bacalso looked strong on the wave executing lightning fast bottom turns and razor sharp top turns to score a 7.33 out of 10.

The proud Australian goofyfooter blitzed the field early in the event and then went on to claim the final against good friend and fellow Bronte Beach, Sydney stablemate Nicola Atherton 14.00 out of 20 to 12.40. Pint-sized prodigy Carissa Moore from Hawaii had her older and more seasoned rivals rattled today at the Billabong World Junior Championships, after she put on a performance well beyond her tender age of 13.

Moore revelled in the one metre (three foot) conditions at Narrabeen Beach, Australia as she caught numerous right-hand breaking waves and executed top to bottom turns that scored her a total of 17.84 out of a possible 20. While the temperature soared at Narrabeen Beach, Sydney, Australia, the waves arrived and the surfing in the Billabong World Junior Championships was simply top notch.
