All 24 National Teams will Parade Through the Streets of Soná and the Games will Officially be Declared Open

The 2013 Reef ISA World Surfing Games in Panama begins today with the Opening Ceremony, featuring the traditional Parade of Nations and Sands of the World Ceremony, followed by the official Press Conference.

Jordy Smith won the Judges Award of the inaugural
X-Games Real Surf Contest.

Surfing has been added to the X Games – but not with a regular surf contest, but with an innovative video contest. Eight pro surfers were invited to produce a 1-minute video and a panel of surf industry experts judged them.

Jordy Smith filmed the best footage and with his progressive style was able to beat Kelly Slater, Chippa Wilson, Dion Agius, Josh Kerr, Gabriel Medina, Matt Meola and Albee Layer. Jordy pocketed the $ 50.000 prize cheque and a gold medal in the X Games – one of his life-long dreams!”Most of my video was filmed in Africa, in Mozambique. (VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – April 10, 2013) – Billabong presents the Coastal Edge Steel Pier Classic and Surf Art Expo this Memorial Day Weekend, May 25-27 in Virginia Beach, Va,
according to the Virginia Longboard Federation (VLF), the producers and organizers of the Steel
Pier Classic (SPC).

Both the professional Men’s and Women’s longboard contests will offer cash purses,
including a $5,000 men’s division; the women’s purse will be announced closer to the event. In
addition, a $5,000 Men’s pro shortboard contest will be part of the event.

Hawiian Team Makes 2 years in a Row

During an epic day of amazing waves and tremendous surfing performances, the 2013 ISA World Masters Surfing Championship officially closed.

The waves were incredible throughout the Finals. The morning heats saw glassy surf in the 6-8 feet range at the perfect right hand point-break in Montañita, Ecuador. A gentle onshore breeze picked up mid-morning, but the waves remained consistent and pumping all day
Team Hawaii successfully defended their title of World Team Champions and winners of the Eduardo Arena Perpetual Team Trophy, named after the Peruvian founder and first President of the ISA in 1964.

The Right-Hand Point Break of Montañita Showed Its True Potential

The ISA World Masters Surfing Championship kicked off with excellent waves in the 4-6 feet range in the perfect right hand point-break in the beautiful town of Montañita. Thousands of fans gathered to see the world’s best over-35 year old surfers put on spectacular performances in the surfing capital of Ecuador.
