In a fantastic finish to a simply amazing event Andy Irons (HAW) has won the Rip Curl Pro Search WCT held “somewhere in Mexico” in incredible one to two metre (three to six feet) waves. Held at the long and hollow wave known only as La Jolla, Irons was the form surfer of the day and was a well-deserved winner.With the wind coming up slightly for the final of the fifth event on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour, the focus shifted to big turns rather than big barrels and Irons stepped up to the task.

JOSH CONSTABLE WINS ASP WORLD LONGBOARD TITLE

ASSOCIATION OF SURFING PROFESSIONALS (ASP) MEN’S WORLD LONGBOARDING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Josh Constable (AUS) has won the 2006 ASP Men’s World Longboard Title today, defeating Ned Snow from Hawaii in a very closely contested man-on-man final at the 13th Annual Rabbit Kekai International Longboard Classic held in Costa Rica.Constable, who contested every heat from the first round of the hotly contested event, notched up some of highest total wave scores of the event and was elated with his victory.

“It hasn’t really sunk in yet,” said Constable. “When I get home with family and friends it will probably kick in. Right now it just doesn’t seem real. It was a perfect day!”

Speaking about the event itself he was full of praise for the venue and the organizers.
“It was such a great atmosphere with everyone staying together and surfing perfect lefts early in the event at the Boca,” said Constable.… Read the rest

BIARRITZ, France (Monday, July 3, 2006) – The first two rounds of the Roxy ASP Women’s World Longboard Championship (WWLC) presented by Evian ran in half to one meter (two to three foot) waves at Côte des Basques, Biarritz, on France’s southwest coast today.Preliminary rounds of the inaugural event whittled the field of 60-plus surfers to 48, with today’s winners joining the seeded surfers in round three.

Contest director Marc Sarran will assess the swell, tide and wind daily to capitalize on the best conditions available during the remaining six-day competition window, with three days needed to complete the event due to radical tidal differences.

American Schuyler McFerran, 19, claimed the day’s highest wave score, a 9.00 (out of 10), in winning her round one heat against Margaret Yao (USA) and Grace Davies (GBR).… Read the rest
