The focus of the sporting world will shift to Santa Catarina, Florianopolis, Brazil from this coming Monday, 30th October as the The Nova Schin Festival presented by Billabong gets underway. [/i]The event, the 10th on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour will play host to one of the hottest showdowns for world championship glory in the history of pro surfing as Andy Irons (HAW) attempts to score his fourth world crown and in doing so thwart Kelly Slater’s (USA) hopes of gaining a seventh.

Slater, who has dominated the 2005 tour, has made finals on five occasions this season, claiming four victories at Tahiti, Fiji, Jeffreys Bay and California and one second placing (behind Irons) in Japan.… Read the rest

While the world title showdown between Andy Irons (HAW) and Kelly Slater (USA) will be catching much of the attention at the Nova Schin Festival presented by Billabong in Brazil, Joel Parkinson meanwhile will be hoping to make an impressionable return from injury and be a thorn in the side of the tour front-runners.[/i]Parkinson returns to the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour after an injury to his medial ligament in his knee forced him to withdraw from events in Japan, California and France.

His inclusion will bolster the radically depleted field, which, at the time of going to press, has nine withdrawals including injured Australians Taj Burrow (foot), Toby Martin (neck), Troy Brooks (knee) and Lee Winkler (wrist) and also will include Sunny Garcia (HAW), Luke Egan (AUS), Dean Morrison (AUS), Tim Curren (USA) and Shane Beschen (USA).… Read the rest

NOVA SCHIN FESTIVAL PRESENTED BY BILLABONG
(31 October – 9 November)

Live on www.aspworldtour.com and www.billabongpro.com

The decision to move two hours drive south from the home base of Joaquina, Florianopolis, Brazil proved successful today for the organisers of the Nova Schin Festival presented by Billabong.[/i]Getting underway in fun one metre (three foot) beach breaks at a location known as Imbituba, contestants in 10th event on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour had the huge crowd enthralled as they put on amazing displays of new-school surfing.

Obviously, due to the potential for the 2005 Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour title to be wound up in here in Brazil, the major focus of the day was on the early performances of Kelly Slater (USA) and Andy Irons (HAW) but there were plenty of cheers throughout round one as both local competitors and the international field effortlessly completed some massive aerial manoeuvres.… Read the rest

With a slight swell direction change and increase organisers of the Nova Schin Festival presented by Billabong in Brazil have put the event on hold but will reassess conditions at midday with the hope of completing the remaining heats of round one later today.[/i]With the higher tide this afternoon, it is hoped that conditions at the event’s home base of Joaquina will improve to a contestable standard as surfers are anxious to get the event underway so they can get “down to work”.

The forecast now indicates that a large southerly change will arrive within the next few days and with that will be an increase in swell. The originally predicted increase in swell, coming from an easterly direction, has not arrived.… Read the rest

IBA World Tour

Day one of the Rockstar Games Honolua Bay Pro, presented by Mike Stewart Science Bodyboards, saw early morning waves in the 3-5 ft. range with classic conditions and mild offshore trade winds at around 10 MPH. The morning crew checking the waves looked like a page right out of Movement Magazine, with 2x World Champion Damien King, Jeff Hubbard, 9x world champ, Mike Stewart and South African/World Traveller Brandon Foster all looking poised for yet another memorable day at the Bay. [/i]By the start of Round 1 at 10am, the waves were already pushing six feet and riders were pushing limits from the outset. The first standout wave of the day came in Heat #2 as Jason Pembrook pulling into a clean, hollow, six-foot wave on the outside, exiting cleanly a few seconds later, scoring him a 7.0 out of 10.… Read the rest
