Jessica Becker Wins Rio WWT

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Day six of competition, the final day of Rio Bodyboarding International 2013, saw the conclusion of the Women’s Grand Slam series portion of this event. The morning began with round seven and ran straight through the final with the Brazilians dominating the competition for the day. Highlights included the elimination of #1-ranked, defending 2x World Champion and defending RBI event champion Isabela Sousa at the hands of former 5x World Champion Neymara Carvalho in the quarterfinals. Also in the quarterfinals, Jessica Becker defeated #2-ranked Emma Cobb (Australia).The semifinals and final would be an all-Brazilian affair that, also, became a battle of generations. PLC Wins Fronton 2012

Galdar, Friday 14th December 2012 – Pierre-Louis Costes (FRA) has won the NMD/VS Fronton PRO 2012 in pumping 6- 10 foot heaving barrels at Fronton today, defeating an in form Jared Houston (ZAF) in the final.

Houston seemed to have a strangle hold on the frenchman early in the heat, posting a 9.25 on his first wave for a huge barrel to backflip and backing it up with a lofty invert on another set wave.

Under the pressure, the Frenchman rose to the challenge, taking off on a draining right-hander, executing a flawless spin inside the tube and exiting the barrel with a lofty backflip over the shallow reef, scoring a near perfect 9.83, giving him a fighting chance to win the final.Now only requiring a mid 7 score to gain the lead, Costes scooped into a deep barrel and exited with speed and control to earn himself a 7.93 and a narrow lead over the South African until the final buzzer sounded.… Read the rest

PLC wins 2012 Portugal Pro

Praia Grande, Sintra, Saturday 1st September 2012 – Pierre-Louis Costes (FRA) has taken out the IBA 2012 Sintra Portugal Pro, defeating South Africa’s Jared Houston in a nail-biting final. The Frenchman opened up his account with a 6.63 out of a possible 10 points for a backflip on his first wave and backed it up with a 6.18 to fend off the South African. Although Houston was slow to start, he managed to lock in a 7.00 point ride, the highest wave score of the final, committing to a lofty backflip on a set wave, but was unable to post anything higher than a 5.55 for the remainder of the final, 0.26 short of the required score. This result will catapult Costes up the rankings, putting him into contention for a second world title.

Mark McCarthy took control of the barrel at Sintra for equal third and put himself in the running for the world title

Isabela Sousa 2012 Womens World Champion
Brazilian bodyboarder Isabela Sousa captured her second IBA World title in Isla De Margarita, Venezuela.

Sousa was competing in the Bodyboard Pro Festival at Playa Praguito, Nueva Esparta, and only had to touch the water to secure enough points to claim the title.

“I’m so happy I don’t know what to say” said an elated Sousa.

“Bodyboarding is my life, it’s taken me to so many place around the world and given me experiences and friendships that will last forever” she added.

Sousa was in a four-way wrangle in the first semester of the IBA World Women’s Tour with the other contenders including Brazilian Karla Costa Taylor and current World Champion Eunate Aguirre (Basque) but managed to moved forward with a win in the previous event in Brazil, the Rio Bodyboarding International.… Read the rest
