Dubai, home to the next ISA World Games? Maybe not yet, but at least they’re in the club.

It would appear that the International Surfing Association (ISA) has taken yet another stroke closer to getting surfing in the Olympics. Historically the ISA has been dominated by surf powerhouses such as Australia, Hawaii, Brazil and the U.S., but with a membership of more than 50 nations, they’re well aware of the fact that if waveriding is ever going to find footing with the IOC the obvious goal has to be the incorporation of more developing surf nations (think Jamaican bobsled team). Medal time is one step closer for the world’s junior surf stars, with the penultimate day of the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship finished today in New Zealand.

With national pride and all-important final day glory on the line, competitors went head-to-head in clean 3-4ft (1-m) beach break waves.

Competitors opted to surf the right-hand rip bowl on the northern end of south Piha Beach for the morning’s heats, with the predominant lefthander on the other end of the beach failing to produce quality waves.Teams lined the black sand of Piha Beach, flying their national flags and cheering on their surfers in what was an emotional-charged day.… Read the rest

Team Australia continued its dominance of the junior surfing scene, winning the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Champions for a fifth consecutive year in New Zealand today.

In dramatic fashion, wins to Lennox Head’s Tyler Wright and Port Macquarie’s Matt Banting lifted Team Australia into the top spot.

Coming into the final day of competition ranked second behind Hawaii, Australia rallied to finish in the lead with 6015-points nearly 1000 clear of Hawaii (5038) in second and the USA (4958) in third.
Australia’s win is also their sixth team’s title victory since the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship was launched eight years ago in 2003.Australian… Read the rest

HUANCHACO, Peru (Sunday, January 31, 2010) – After an intense Final heat, Rodrigo Sphaier (BRA) conquers Piccolo Clemente (PER) and wins the title of Champion of the ASP LQS 6-Star Huanchaco Pro Peru 2010.

After four days of great surfing, Peru and Brazil found their way to the Final. Rodrigo Shepier and Piccolo Clemente gave it their all during the 35-minute Final, but in the end, the Brazilian found his way to the win and US$8,000 richer and the bearer of the title of champion.


Burning Semifinals

The final day of the Huanchaco Longboard Pro Peru 2010 opened in less than ideal conditions. Dressed up with their Olympic National outfits the 36 surfers that will participate in the first edition of the South American Beach Games arrived today in Uruguay. They’re looking forward to the medals and the honor of participating in this historic first South American Beach Games that will be held from December 9 to 13 in the waves of Montoya, Punta del Este, Uruguay.Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela will compete with strong full teams looking forward to win the medals in the following four divisions: Open Men, Open Women, Aloha Cup (Tag Team) and Air Show.… Read the rest
