The inaugural 2009 Surfing Hainan Open took
place on January 10thand 11that Shimei, on
China’s beautiful Hainan island. With reports of
a peaking swell for the Saturday, competitors
were in high spirits in the lead up to the contest.
As the first surfing contest in mainland China in
several years and the first ever to have
Bodyboardand Longboarddivisions the event
attracted around 20 competitors across three
divisions, attracting riders from South China,
Hong Kong and even as far afield as Korea, all
vying for top honors, and prizes from the event
sponsors.With competitors staying in Riyuebay, the morning greeted them
with sunny skies and an offshore breeze, meaning conditions
were excellent for entrants. After a short drive to the contest site
at Nanyanbay, mechanical 2-3 foot left handerswith a brisk

Over 100 Events Scheduled To Take Place Globally on June 20

On June 20, 2009, surfers globally will wax their boards, paddle out and catch waves in honor of International Surfing Day presented by Monster Energy.

Founded five years ago by the Surfrider Foundation and Surfing Magazine, International Surfing Day unites surfers from around the world in celebration of the sport of surfing. Surfers Against Sewage has published their new guidance for offshore renewable developers today, World Ocean Day, as the first act within the new Protect Our Waves (POW) campaign. The guidance highlights sites of special surfing interest that developers should avoid. If the guidance is used effectively it could also help speed up the consent process for suitable offshore developments.

2009 Transworld Surf “CALI RALLY”

Bragging rights are on the line as REEF faces off against Lost,
Analog, and defending champions, Biillabong, for the prestigious
2009 Transworld Surf “CALI RALLY.” Consisting of 10 days of
surfing and shenanigans up and down the West Coast from San Diego
to Santa Cruz, the event will kick of July 6th -15th. REEF’S
Global Athlete Manager, Heath “Nutty” Walker has had his work cut
out for him to hand pick his elite4-man team, but without further
ado, here is the line-up.

This weekend, from 9 to July 12, will take place at the “Mexican Pipeline” Zicatela Beach and Punta beach from Puerto Escondido Oaxaca, Mexico, the second edition of Surf & Music Festival and close circuit Mexican surf, which defines selected to represent our country in the different powers in the world certified by the ISA, as is already the next global surf in Costa Rica.
