BIARRITZ, France (Thursday, July 5, 2007) – With less than a week remaining to the start of the Roxy ASP Women’s World Longboard Championship (WWLC), the best women longboarders are beginning to converge on the beautiful French town of Biarritz.Commencing next Wednesday July 11, 2007, 48 surfers will compete for the ultimate prize in women’s longboarding – the ASP Women’s World Longboard Title. The international field sees surfers from as far a field as Japan, Tahiti, USA, Australia, Brazil and Hawaii battling it out with local European hopes from Spain, Great Britain and, of course, France.

Local hopes will be resting on Biarritz surfer and four-time European longboard champion Claire Karabatsos (FRA). In last year’s event Karabatsos had a remarkable run, advancing through to the semifinals where she was defeated by the eventual winner Schuyler McFerran (USA).… Read the rest

JEFFREYS BAY, South Africa (Wednesday, July 11, 2007) – Top seeds and former Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay champions Joel Parkinson (AUS), Mick Fanning (AUS) and Andy Irons (USA) each advanced to Round 3 today. Heats 1 through 9 of the Billabong Pro, the 5th event of 10 on the 2007 Foster’s ASP World Tour, were run before unfavorable winds saw the event called off for the day.Parkinson, who won the event as a wildcard in 1999, asserted his intention to vie for a 2007 title with his commanding Round 1 performance. ANGELO LOZANO SHOWED HIS TALENT IN THE WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

During last January, Angelo Lozano became the first Mexican surfer who participated in the Junior World Cup that is organized by the ASP. The Billabong ASP World Junior Championship took place in Narrabeen, Sydney and gathered together an exclusive list of the most important 45 athletes who are less than 21 years old. Lozano obtained an International Wildcard by the ASP and finished the Championship on the 17th place of the ranking. An outstanding performance for a young man of 20 years old, with an entire career waiting for him, and who is the pride of Puerto Escondido.Adan Hernández, José Manuel Trujillo, Christian Corzo and Angelo Lozano had been the athletes chosen by the ASP to determine who would be Mexico’s representative in the Championship.
