Miss Reef 2013 Calendar

(Carlsbad, CA) Nov 12th, 2012 –Reef is proud to release the fourth in a five-year series of Miss Reef Calendars shot entirely in Latin America, an effort to bring the brand back to its Latin roots. The Miss Reef Calendar is an annual tradition, treasured by surfers for generations. And this year, it has a decidedly contemporary look.

For the 2013 calendar, Reef chose the wonder-filled Galapagos Islands. Isolated in the Pacific Ocean, some 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador. These “Enchanted Islands” have been celebrated for what they have to teach us about the natural world – full of countless species of unique flora and fauna in a pristine environment. This installment in particular is a contemporary take on Miss Reef. It hints at a new creative heading with thoughtful art direction.… Read the rest

Kelia Moniz Claims ASP Women’s World Longboard Title at the SWATCH Girls Pro China

WANNING, Hainan Island/China (Sunday, November 25, 2012) – Kelia Moniz (HAW) has won the SWATCH Girls Pro China 2012 hosted by Wanning over Chelsea Williams (AUS), claiming her maiden ASP Women’s World Longboard Title. The pair repeated history by meeting in the Final as they did at last year’s SWATCH Girls Pro China, where Williams won, but today it was Moniz who took top honours.

Moniz is the second ASP World Champion crowned in China and is a well deserved winner after consistently posting excellent scores all event, but the Final was her most dominant heat by far. She rode the nose with style and grace, executed critical turns and read the shifty line-up to perfection.”We couldn’t hear the scores so after the heat I didn’t know what to think,” Moniz said.… Read the rest

PLC wins 2012 Portugal Pro

Praia Grande, Sintra, Saturday 1st September 2012 – Pierre-Louis Costes (FRA) has taken out the IBA 2012 Sintra Portugal Pro, defeating South Africa’s Jared Houston in a nail-biting final. The Frenchman opened up his account with a 6.63 out of a possible 10 points for a backflip on his first wave and backed it up with a 6.18 to fend off the South African. Although Houston was slow to start, he managed to lock in a 7.00 point ride, the highest wave score of the final, committing to a lofty backflip on a set wave, but was unable to post anything higher than a 5.55 for the remainder of the final, 0.26 short of the required score. This result will catapult Costes up the rankings, putting him into contention for a second world title.

Mark McCarthy took control of the barrel at Sintra for equal third and put himself in the running for the world title

“I am so happy with this win”, especially because I was contemplating whether or not to compete at this event.”… Read the rest
