SAN CLEMENTE, California (September 15, 2006) – Currently ranked number two in the world, Taj Burrow (AUS), raised the performance bar today when he launched aerial after aerial to make his way through to round four of the Boost Mobile Pro presented by Hurley.

The event, the seventh of 11 on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour was held today in excellent one to two metre (three to six foot) conditions and from heat one right through to heat 16 it was excitement plus.When Burrow hit the water it was anticipated that he would charge hard given that he has the potential, if he claims the event, to close the gap on or even overtake ratings leader, seven-time world champion Kelly Slater (USA), but no-one expected a show like they saw today.… Read the rest

He appeared from the mist of a raging Hawaiian swell, paddling in from the horizon at Sunset Beach. He’d thought nothing of swimming into the distant maelstrom to find his lost board, drifting to the outer reefs of Rocky Point, and then heading straight out to bypass the brutal current. Surfers braving the 18-foot seas could hardly fathom his arrival, but that was Mike Stewart, defining himself: a man from somewhere else.This happened years ago, although it could have been yesterday or well into the future—any time during one of the most remarkable careers in surfing history. BEACHLEY BRINGS HAVAIANAS ON BOARD TO HELP PRESENT RICHEST WOMEN’S SURFING EVENT

COOLANGATTA, Australia (Wednesday, August 9, 2006) –Layne Beachley’s role in bringing an ASP Women’s World Tour event back to her hometown of Sydney, Australia, has proven she’s as effective in the boardroom as she is on a surfboard.

The six-time ASP world champion recently secured global fashion brand Havaianas as the naming sponsor for her October event.

The now officially dubbed Havaianas Beachley Classic is the richest women’s tournament in the 30-year history of female professional surfing – it will offer US$100,000 in prize money.Beachley said she is relieved to have gained the backing of the Brazilian-based footwear sponsor for Sydney’s first stand-alone women’s surfing event in over a decade.

28-year old Tahitian Manoa Drollet has ridden what is being dubbed the biggest wave ever to be surfed at the death defying break of Teahupoo. Drollet joined Billabong Adventure Division surfers Shane Dorian (Haw), Dylan Longbottom (Coolangatta) and 19-year-old Laurie Towner on July 28th during the largest swell to bombard the Pacific Island in over 12 months.A renowned Teahupoo charger, Drollet has set the benchmark for tow-in surfing at the worlds heaviest break, riding a mountainous wave two years ago which was originally claimed to be the largest ever ridden. The latest 10m giant is believed to be bigger and any mistake could be likened to having a five-story building land on your head.

“When I took off on that wave I was pretty worried because Peter Mel was on the inside trying to pick up Mark Healy who wiped out on the wave before,” said Drollet.… Read the rest
