SURFERS WE HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO HELP !

Right after the bombings of 01 october in Kuta and Jimbaran, IDEP
Foundation(www.IDEPfoundation.org) got in charge of the crisis center, just like they did in 2002.
IDEP is an Indonesian non-profit foundation that was established in Bali in 1999, at the height of Indonesia’s economic crisis. IDEP’s objective was to respond to urgent needs for sustainable food production and resource management, while conveying the importance of environmental education for sustainable living.
In 2001 IDEP launched a Community Based Crisis Response Program to help
local Indonesian communities to be more prepared for and to better manage
disasters… which proved efficient and visionary in 2002, after the
bombings that killed 202 people and left the toursim-based economy in poor
shape.

Now, under IDEP’s initiative, the balinese community is building-up
emergency and crisis management procedures for the future, to improve rescue
as well as support the injured locals in the long term, whatever the
‘crisis’.… Read the rest

Live on www.aspworldtour.com

While the world title showdown between Andy Irons (HAW) and Kelly Slater (USA) will be catching much of the attention at the Nova Schin Festival presented by Billabong in Brazil, Joel Parkinson meanwhile will be hoping to make an impressionable return from injury and be a thorn in the side of the tour front-runners.Parkinson returns to the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour after an injury to his medial ligament in his knee forced him to withdraw from events in Japan, California and France.

His inclusion will bolster the radically depleted field, which, at the time of going to press, has nine withdrawals including injured Australians Taj Burrow (foot), Toby Martin (neck), Troy Brooks (knee) and Lee Winkler (wrist) and also will include Sunny Garcia (HAW), Luke Egan (AUS), Dean Morrison (AUS), Tim Curren (USA) and Shane Beschen (USA).… Read the rest

The decision to move two hours drive south from the home base of Joaquina, Florianopolis, Brazil proved successful today for the organisers of the Nova Schin Festival presented by Billabong.Getting underway in fun one metre (three foot) beach breaks at a location known as Imbituba, contestants in 10th event on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour had the huge crowd enthralled as they put on amazing displays of new-school surfing.

Obviously, due to the potential for the 2005 Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour title to be wound up in here in Brazil, the major focus of the day was on the early performances of Kelly Slater (USA) and Andy Irons (HAW) but there were plenty of cheers throughout round one as both local competitors and the international field effortlessly completed some massive aerial manoeuvres.… Read the rest

With a slight swell direction change and increase organisers of the Nova Schin Festival presented by Billabong in Brazil have put the event on hold but will reassess conditions at midday with the hope of completing the remaining heats of round one later today. With the higher tide this afternoon, it is hoped that conditions at the event’s home base of Joaquina will improve to a contestable standard as surfers are anxious to get the event underway so they can get “down to work”.

The forecast now indicates that a large southerly change will arrive within the next few days and with that will be an increase in swell. The originally predicted increase in swell, coming from an easterly direction, has not arrived.… Read the rest
