Surfing Hainan to Hold First Stand Up Paddleboard and Run Biathlon


May 15th will see a unique event in China’s tropical island province of Hainan, when Surfing Hainan holds their first Stand Up Paddleboard & Run Biathlon. Competitors will use Stand Up Paddleboards (SUP) to paddle for five kilometers along the shore in Sanya Bay, and then run five kilometers on the sandy beach.Stand Up Paddleboarding is an offshoot of surfing, in which riders use very large surfboards, around three meters long, and stand on the board the entire time, using a single-bladed paddle to propel themselves through the water. SUPs can be used to ride waves, like traditional surfboards, or for flat water paddling. Flat water paddling on SUPs has seen an incredible emergence in Western countries, as riders have taken to lakes, rivers, and the ocean for the excellent core workout that the sport provides.

SUNSET BEACH, Oahu/Hawaii (Thursday, December 2, 2010) – Wildcard Tyler Wright (AUS), 16, has won the O’Neill Women’s World Cup of Surfing, topping Sunset Beach local Coco Ho (HAW), 19, reigning four-time ASP Women’s World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), 22, and ASP Women’s World Tour No. 2 Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), 19, in two-to-four foot (1 metre) surf at Sunset Beach.

The final stop on the ASP Women’s World Tour, the O’Neill Women’s World Cup of Surfing also marked the second jewel of the Vans Triple Crown and played a vital role in surfers’ campaigns towards requalification for the 2011 ASP Women’s Dream Tour.Wright, competing in the first Vans Triple Crown of her young career, quickly catapulted into the lead in the Final, smashing the event’s highest single-wave score of a 9.57 out of 10 en route to the highest heat total of a 17.24 out of 20 by linking a series of massive forehand hacks and powerful carves to leave the field in a combination situation within the first 10 minutes of the bout to eventually take out the win.… Read the rest

BELLS BEACH, Victoria/Australia (Thursday, April 21, 2011) – Round 2 of the Rip Curl Women’s Pro Bells Beach presented by Ford Fiesta, the second stop on the 2011 ASP Women’s World Title season, was completed this morning in firing three-to-five (1 – 1.5 metre) waves at Bells Beach and the world’s best female surfers reveled in the pristine, offshore conditions.
