COOLANGATTA, Australia (Thursday, Apr. 23, 2008)–The next stop on the 2008 ASP World Tour, the Billabong Pro Tahiti pres. by Air Tahiti Nui, could commence sans its defending champion Damien Hobgood (USA).Hobgood, who was free-surfing at the upcoming contest venue of Teahupoo on Monday, April 14, 2008, hesitated on an eight foot set wave, got caught on the lip and was subsequently piledriven onto the razor-sharp reef. He fractured his shoulder in three places, suffered a gash to the head and shredded his back on the coral.

The pressure rose at Les Dunes, back up venue South to the main event site of Les Cavaliers, and favorites took the best of the three foot (one meter) waves on offer to secure a spot in the finals. From the sixteen men who surfed in Round 4 today, eight only remain in the race for the title.Matthew Moir (Cape Town, ZAF), 30, posted the best ride of the day on his way to defeat best scorer of the Oxbow WLT Taylor Jensen (USA) in Heat 3. COOLANGATTA, Australia (Wednesday, May 7, 2008) – For the first time in five years, the ASP World Masters Championships will assemble some of the most legendary names in professional surfing to Rio de Janeiro’s Barra de Tijuca from June 30 through July 6, 2008 to crown the 2008 ASP World Masters and ASP World Grand Masters Champions.

The Rio Masters will feature two divisions in the ASP Masters (surfers aged over 35) and the ASP Grand Masters (surfers aged over 47). The major surf nations like Australia, Brazil, USA, New Zealand, Hawaii and South Africa continue with their teams intact. The high level of surfing at this World Championships illustrates the unbelievable quality and depth of this generation all aged under 18.Easy victories went to Alejo Muniz (Bra) and Owen Wright (Aus) who scored the highest heat score of his U18 round, 18,6 out of a possible 20.
