During last January, Angelo Lozano became the first Mexican surfer who participated in the Junior World Cup that is organized by the ASP. The Billabong ASP World Junior Championship took place in Narrabeen, Sydney and gathered together an exclusive list of the most important 45 athletes who are less than 21 years old. Lozano obtained an International Wildcard by the ASP and finished the Championship on the 17th place of the ranking. An outstanding performance for a young man of 20 years old, with an entire career waiting for him, and who is the pride of Puerto Escondido.Adan Hern\u00e1ndez, Jos\u00e9 Manuel Trujillo, Christian Corzo and Angelo Lozano had been the athletes chosen by the ASP to determine who would be Mexico\u0092s representative in the Championship. Finally, it was Lozano\u0092s honour to represent his country. Lozano showed really happy when he realized that. And so, the Squalo team member had to prepare his boards and luggage to fly to Australian lands.<\/p>\n
Talking to Surfpress, the Mexican surfer said: \u0093I think I could do even better, but in the heat against Matt \u0093Wilko\u0094 Wilkinson, australian favourite, there weren\u0092t many waves and he chose the best ones. I think that anything can happen in 20 minutes of a heat on those tipe of conditions and surfing level, no matter who are you competing with, all the participants are great surfers. At this stage, it\u0092s a question of being more intelligent and being lucky to catch the waves. I feel very proud of giving this 17th place to Mexico.\u0094<\/p>\n
As well as participating in the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships, Lozano visited different Australian waves like Snapper Rocks and Duranbah Beach (Gold Coast) among others. On the later, he took part of the “Rip Curl King of Coolly”, where he was interviewed by Mark Flanagan(Rip Curl event manager). Angelo answered different questions about the Rip Curl Search that took place last year in Mexico, and about his participation in the Trials of the Foster\u0092s ASP World Champonship tour on that stop. The interview would be on the promotional video of the Rip Curl Search WCT which will be carried out in Chile this year.<\/p>\n
TOWARDS CHILE<\/p>\n
Next February the 16th, Angelo Lozano will be competing in the Reef Classic Chile, which is the second stop of the ALAS tour of 2007. It will take place in Re\u00f1aca\u0092s waves, and it will be the first time of this year in the Latin tour. This year the member of the squalo team will have double participation in the Latin tour, because of the modifications ALAS made in the Junior division (now it will be called Junior Pro and the participants have to be younger than 21 years old) Angelo will compete in the Open and Junior divisions at the same time.<\/p>\n
\u0093 I had to choose not to participate at the Mexpipe of Puerto Escondido so that I didn\u0092t miss the ALAS date. This year, I\u0092m focusing on the international level and the ALAS tour is a good chance to prove it. That\u0092s why I will be participating in the Open and Junior divisions throughout this year\u0094 said to Surfpress this promising surfer.<\/p>\n

Durante el pasado mes de enero, \u00c1ngelo Lozano se convirti\u00f3 en el primer surfista mexicano en participar en un mundial para menores organizado por la ASP, el Billabong ASP World Junior Championships se desarroll\u00f3 en Narrabeen, Sydney y reuni\u00f3 a una selecta lista conformada por los 45 atletas menores de 21 a\u00f1os m\u00e1s importantes del surfing global. Lozano obtuvo una International Wildcard otorgado por la ASP y termin\u00f3 el campeonato ubicado en el puesto 17, una destacada actuaci\u00f3n para el joven de 20 a\u00f1os orgullo de Puerto Escondido quien tiene una gran carrera por delante.<\/p>\n
Adan Hern\u00e1ndez, Jos\u00e9 Manuel Trujillo, Christian Corzo y \u00c1ngelo Lozano hab\u00edan sido la n\u00f3mina de atletas elegidos por ASP para determinar quien ser\u00eda el representante de M\u00e9xico, finalmente el honor recay\u00f3 sobre los hombros de Lozano quien se mostr\u00f3 sumamente feliz al conocer la noticia. Es as\u00ed como el integrante del team Squalo debi\u00f3 preparar sus tablas y equipaje para volar a tierras australianas.<\/p>\n
En declaraciones a Surfpress el surfista mexicano coment\u00f3 lo siguiente: \u0093Creo que me podr\u00eda haber ido mejor a\u00fan, pero en la serie contra Matt \u0093Wilko\u0094 Wilkinson, favorito australiano, hubieron muy pocas olas y al final \u00e9l eligi\u00f3 las mejores, creo que a ese nivel y en 20 minutos de serie todo puede suceder, no importa contra quien compitas, todos surfean muy bien, en esa instancia ya es cuesti\u00f3n de quien sea m\u00e1s inteligente y tenga mayor suerte con las olas. Me siento muy orgulloso de llevar este puesto 17 para M\u00e9xico\u0094.<\/p>\n
Adem\u00e1s de competir en el Billabong ASP World Junior Championships, Lozano visit\u00f3 diferentes rompientes australianas como Snapper Rocks y Duranbah Beach (Gold Coast) entre otras. En \u00e9sta \u00faltima locaci\u00f3n tom\u00f3 parte del “Rip Curl King of Coolly”, donde fue entrevistado por Mark Flanagan (event manager de Rip Curl). \u00c1ngelo respondi\u00f3 diversas preguntas sobre el Rip Curl Search realizado el pasado a\u00f1o en M\u00e9xico y sobre su participaci\u00f3n en los Trials de esa parada del tour Foster\u0092s ASP World Champonship. RUMBO A CHILE<\/p>\n
El pr\u00f3ximo 16 de febrero \u00c1ngelo Lozano estar\u00e1 compitiendo en el Reef Classic Chile, segunda parada del a\u00f1o del tour ALAS que se realizar\u00e1 en las olas de Re\u00f1aca, y ser\u00e1 la primera presentaci\u00f3n del 2007 para el surfista mexicano en el tour latino. Este a\u00f1o la gira latina ser\u00e1 por partida doble para el integrante del team Squalo, gracias a las modificaciones que ALAS realiz\u00f3 en la categor\u00eda junior (ahora se llamar\u00e1 Junior Pro y los participantes deber\u00e1n ser menores de 21 a\u00f1os de edad) \u00c1ngelo dar\u00e1 batalla en Open y Junior a la vez.<\/p>\n
\u0093Tuve que tomar la decisi\u00f3n de no participar en el Mexpipe de Puerto Escondido para no perderme la fecha de ALAS, este a\u00f1o mi prioridad es afianzarme en el plano internacional y el tour ALAS es una buena oportunidad para lograrlo. Es por eso que estar\u00e9 compitiendo en Open y Junior durante todo el a\u00f1o\u0094, manifest\u00f3 a Surfpress el ascendente surfista mexicano.<\/p>\n
