What: A historic surfing tournment at the famous Banzai Pipeline. Featuring top-rated women shortboarders, longboarders, bodyboarders and stand-up paddle expression session. <\/p>\n
When: March 31 – April 14 2009, the best 3 days of surf. Opening prayer 7:30 am March 31, Ehukai Beach Park. After Party TBA. <\/p>\n
Where: Pipeline surf break on Oahu’s North Shore, Ehukai Beach Park. Meeting place Breakers Restaurant, Haleiwa. <\/p>\n
Why: To benefit the Girl Scouts of Hawai`i and the ‘greening’ of their Camp Paumalu` on Oahu’s North Shore. <\/p>\n
Women’s Bodyboarding Celebrates 20 Years at Pipeline This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Women’s Pipeline Pro. The Women’s Pipeline Pro has welcomed hundreds of women competitors throughout the years and is considered one of the ultimate women’s pro surf events.About Our Sponsor<\/p>\n
This surfing event is sponsored by Culturalization as part of it’s outreach program into the North Shore Community. It’s major focus this year is advocacy for the
\nGirl Scouts of Hawai`i’s ‘Leadership through Stewardship’ program.
\nFounded by entrepreneur Peter Koziol, Culturalization supports the notion that
\nwise stewardship of resources is synonymous with strong, effective, and prudent leadership<\/p>\n
Open spaces, camping and the ‘Greening’ of Camp Paumalu` <\/p>\n
The Girl Scouts of Hawai`i, in collaboration with Culturalization, is currently undertaking the ‘Greening’ of Camp Paumalu` project.
\nCamp Paumalu`, owned by Girl Scouts of Hawai`i since 1951 is a 135 acre wooded rustic campsite nestled in the uplands of the North Shore of Oahu.
\nThe Girl Scouts of Hawai`i’s intention is to enhance and preserve this amazing resourse to ensure its survival for generations to come.<\/p>\n
How we ALL can help… <\/p>\n
Time has proven that the maintenance and development of Camp Paumalu` requires more than just Girl Scouts of Hawai`i’s efforts. It takes involvement and support of the community to make it sustainable from an economic, eccological, and programmatic standpoint.<\/p>\n
With the on-going disappearence of open space for public use, there are fewer and fewer opportunities for the youth to make direct connections with nature. By working to restore and preserve Camp Paumalu’s natural habitat and beauty, Culturalization believes the camp can offer relevant environmental and educational programs respectful of Hawai`i’s host culture.<\/p>\n

Being ‘Green’
\nOn the beach we are going ‘green’ with our three R’s, Reuse, Recycle and Respect. There will be organic t-shirts, recyclable consumables, and natural products where possible!<\/p>\n
All contributors to this tournament have demonstrated their support of the local community or environment. Their contributions can be found in the official Pipeline Tidal 9 Program Guide.<\/p>\n

Keala Kennelly “I love Pipe, its one of my favorite waves in the world. I have been surfing it a lot this winter, and I am just stoked that there is a 4 star event for women there this year.”<\/p>\n

\nWe are celebrating 20 years of Women’s Bodyboarding at Pipeline. I have competed in all 20 years and I think this year will be the best ever. This events creates awareness of our environment, I love it.”<\/p>\n

Rochelle Ballard, Pro Surfer, “We have the opportunity to inspire people with conscious living. I’m working to have recycling at the event, organic Tshirt’s, promoting the Farmers market at Sunset Beach elementary, using our resources rather than wasting them. Showing the next generation how easy it is to be green, its just a matter of habit.”<\/p>\n

Heather Brown, graduate of the University of Hawai`i-Manoa is this year’s featured artist. She will be painting LIVE at the contest site and there will be a silent auction, proceeds of which will be donated to the Girls Scouts of Hawai`i.<\/p>\n
