SUNSET BEACH, Oahu (Wednesday, September 9, 2009) \u2013 ASP International is pleased to announce that Gidget Worldwide has signed on to headline this season\u2019s ASP Women\u2019s World Tour event at the world-famous Sunset Beach on the North Shore of Oahu.<\/p>\n
Stop No. 6 of 7 on the 2009 ASP Women\u2019s World Tour, the Gidget Pro Sunset Beach boasts a waiting period of November 24 to December 6, and will once again play a revered part on the ASP Dream Tour, pitting the world\u2019s best female surfers against one of the most challenging waves on the planet.”It’s super important for the girls to have an event on the North Shore,\u201d Coco Ho, ASP Top 17 Rookie and Sunset Beach local, said. \u201cThe wave at Sunset is really challenging and there is always size. Running alongside the guys’ event is great too because there are always big crowds and that will definitely amp us up to perform. I\u2019m really excited for it.”<\/p>\n
With elite tour events running here since 1996, no shortage of history comes with the women\u2019s event at Sunset Beach. Gidget Worldwide will now take the reins at the Hawaiian heavy water spot, ushering in and encouraging a new breed of female athlete to test themselves against Mother Nature\u2019s ferocity.<\/p>\n
“I don’t want this to sound like a clich\u00e9, but it’s an honor that comes with an obligation,\u201d Victor Valles, President, CEO and Founder of Gidget Worldwide, Inc., said. \u201cOne of the coolest things about Gidget is that she got off the beach and onto a board. She did something very few women had ever done before. Fast forward to 2009, and the 21st Century Gidget coming to Sunset Beach is something that we have dreamed about. Despite a lengthy mid-season break, the ASP Top 17 are gearing up for an action-packed back half of the year with events in Sydney, Portugal and Peru before culminating with two events in Hawaii.<\/p>\n

In addition to remaining a vital part of the ASP Women\u2019s World Tour, the Gidget Pro Sunset Beach also marks the second of three stops on the prestigious Vans Hawaiian Triple Crown of Surfing (an ASP Specialty Series).<\/p>\n

The Gidget Pro Sunset Beach will host the world\u2019s best female surfers from November 24 through December 6, 2009.<\/p>\n
The next stop on the 2009 ASP Women\u2019s World Tour will be the Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic at Sydney\u2019s Northern Beaches from September 30 through October 5, 2009.<\/p>\n
