\nPress Release \u2013 THE IBA 2012 Pipe Challenge
\nThe International Bodyboarding Association (IBA) is
\npleased to announce that the IBA 2012 Pipe Challenge
\nhas secured the sponsorship support of some of
\nthe industry and Hawaii’s leading brands.
\nOcean Current, Dave & Busters, Aqua Hotels
\n& Resorts, T & C Surf Designs, and go!Mokulele
\nAirlines have committed to the sponsorship of
\nthe event, which is shaping up as one of the most
\nanticipated events in the history of the IBA World
\nTour. <\/p>\n

\nThursday 2nd February saw IBA athletes, staff, media and
\ncorporate partners along with industry leading
\nbrands and personalities officially launch the
\n2012 IBA World Tour at Star City Casino, Sydney
\nNSW Australia.
\nPresentations by YouTube\u2019s Richard North
\non the evolution of sports on Youtube, along with
\npresentations by Morrison Media General Manager
\nCraig Simms, IBA Managing Director Gregg Taylor
\nand a candid interview of Damian King by IBA Tour
\nManager Terry Mckenna, were all features of the
\nlaunch.<\/p>\n
The Australian Leg of the IBA World Tour (March \u2013 April 2012)The
\nIBA world tour events have been positioned in
\n2012 to entice International riders to Australia
\nby scheduling 3 IBA events back to back. This
\nwill give contestants the chance to compete
\nin an IBA Grand Slam event as well as a 6 Star
\nPrimary GQS in the one month and potentially
\nthe Shark Island Challenge.
\nThe attraction is enhanced further for Australian
\nriders with dual sanctioning applying to both
\nthe IBA Box Pro and IBA Port Macquarie Festival
\nof Bodyboarding events. This means that the
\nmaximum 3 Star points are allocated for both
\ncontests on the Rebel Sport Pro Tour.
\nThere are also Grand Slam World Tour events
\nfor the Women’s World Tour and the Drop
\nKnee World Tour.
\nDates for the events are March 26th till April
\n24th and if you ever wanted to see Australia
\nthen this is the best opportunity you could
\nask for. This time of year is renowned for warm
\nweather and consistent swells, on both the east
\nand west coasts of Australia.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
West Australia is home to some of the best waves
\non the planet and will give tourists a real
\ntaste of the “Wild West” whilst Port
\nMacquarie is positioned in the middle of the
\nNSW east coast and has produced some of Australia’s
\nbest Bodyboarders, mainly due to the nature
\nof the iconic break-walls and the churning barrels
\nthat run down either side.
\nThe 2012 IBA BOX Pro
\nThe 2012 IBA Grand Slam Series arrives in Australia
\nin late March with the IBA Box Pro in Margaret
\nRiver, WA. Dates for the event are March 26th
\n\u2013 April 4th and the prize money on offer
\nis US$35,000. This is event 2 of 8 of the IBA
\nGrand Slam Series. The
\nIBA Box Pro event rose from the ashes last year
\nto establish itself as one of the most exciting
\nvenues on the tour with heaving 10 feet slabs
\non the final day. Local rider Ryan Hardy had
\nan emotional victory in from of passionate home
\ncrowd. The
\nIBA Box Pro will see the top 24 Bodyboarders
\nin the world joined by 2 wildcards and 6 successful
\nqualifiers from the official trials event. The
\ntrials event will be held at Gas Bay and will
\ncarry valuable GQS world tour points and will
\ndouble up as a maximum rated Australian Pro
\nTour event. This is your opportunity to take
\non the world’s best riders on the world’s
\nbiggest stage and position yourself with valuable
\nGQS tour points.
\nThe
\n2012 IBA Port Macquarie Festival of Bodyboarding
\nThe
\nPort Macquarie Festival of Bodyboarding is shaping
\nup to be the largest Bodyboarding event held
\nin Australia and the World. The event will feature
\n3 International Bodyboarding Association (IBA)
\nWorld Tour Events along with the 25th Anniversary
\nof the Port Macquarie Australian Teams Challenge.
\nUp to 500 professional and amateur competitors
\nare expected to attend from all corners of the
\nglobe.d US$60,000. The event
\nwill be held over 10 days from Saturday 14th
\nApril to Monday 23rd April 2012. This period
\nfalls in the second week of the NSW Easter school
\nholidays. (Easter weekend is Friday 6th April
\nto Monday 9th April 2012). The event will be
\nheld at Port Macquarie on the Mid North Coast
\nof NSW. Port Macquarie was officially granted
\nthe Bodyboarding Capital of Australia status
\nin 2011. The event will be a mobile event held
\nacross the following beaches; Town Beach, North
\nBeach, Flynns Beach, and Lighthouse Beach<\/p>\n

\nBruno is one of the eight new faces in the top
\n24 on the Grand Slam Series Men’s World
\nTour. We phoned him in Brazil and this is what
\nhe had to say about himself
\nIBA judging Update
\nThe International Bodyboard Association (IBA) are
\npleased to announce that its introducing some
\nformer professional and high profile riders
\nonto judging panels in 2012, starting at the
\nIBA Pipe Challenge in Hawaii. Judging offers
\nriders who have finished their competitive careers
\nan opportunity to continue their association
\nwith the sport. It also puts the IBA in line
\nwith other professional sports that offer their
\nathletes career pathways when their competitive
\ncareers are finished. Heading up the “new
\nfaces” in the judging tower is Tahitian
\nlocal Simon Thornton. Simon had a strong presence
\non the Australian Pro Tour prior to relocating
