The Billabong Pro Maui, the final event on the 2005 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s World Tour, will enter its 12-day waiting period Thursday, December 8. Despite Rip Curl Pro Pipeline Masters organisers being greeted this morning with a near flat ocean, thus their decision to call the event off for today, they are extremely enthusiastic that it will kick off tomorrow in premium Pipeline conditions.[/i]As we go to press the swell is beginning to build for the 11th and final event on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour and it is predicted that for tomorrow the event will take place in three metre plus (10 foot plus) perfect Pipeline barrels.

[size=xx-small]AustralianDanny Wills (Byron Bay, NSW) (pictured) scored a sensational victory over seven times ASP world champion Kelly Slater (Cocoa Beach, Florida, USA) in round one of the Rip Curl Pro Pipeline Masters on the North Shore of Oahu today. Wills advanced directly to round three while Slater and third placed Hawaiian Kalani Chapman were sidelined to the losers rounds in round two.[/size]

While conditions have dropped it is still near perfect for the start of the Rip Curl Pro Pipeline Masters today with waves still pumping in at around the two metre (six feet) mark.

The next day Honolua Bay plays host to the best women surfers in the world, the Billabong Pro Maui and the 2005 Association of Professional Surfing (ASP) Women’s world champion will be crowned at day’s end. Today won’t be that day. [/i]Small surf with more promising conditions on the horizon have seen competition on this third day of the Billabong Pro waiting period called off. Yesterday, four to six foot (two meter) conditions saw rounds ones and two and some sensational surfing run. The remainder of the competition takes only one day to complete.

In addition to deciding this year’s world champion and next year’s women’s World Championship Tour (WCT) roster, the Billabong Pro is also the third and final jewel in the women’s Vans Triple Crown of Surfing series.… Read the rest
