Another swell that has failed to deliver – you would think that 4 hrs of 4-6ft swell would be achievable in 27 days, but hey, as the old saying goes – it’s not over till the fat lady sings. The last time this happen was in 1999 when Rissole took the crown after the completion of one round.Yes, it has been frustrating. Unfortunately, the waves did not reach the required minimum 4ft range on the weekend and from all accounts everyone was in favour not to stage the 2nd round. I’m happy that everyone is on the same wave length. For us to hold the final round in smaller, less favourable,conditions would be a huge step backwards. By setting a bench mark it shows the general public ( the fans) and, if it matters, the IBA, that all involved are committed to surfing waves that best represents our sport.… Read the rest

Riders vote unanimously to extend the waiting period for the 2009 Nomad Shark Island Challenge

Shark Island 26th July.

After long talks with riders and officials; it has been decided to extend the waiting period for the 2009 Nomad Shark Island challenge for an additional 2 weeks to accommodate the end of the second tidal window and inturn to introduce of a third. The waiting period will now carry on till the 9th of August, a total of 34 days, the third longest waiting period in the event history.

“It has been a shocking period for swell” explains Contest Director Mark Fordham. “There has been plenty of activity down South though the swells seem to keep tracking in an S/SW direction which is unfavourable for Shark Island itself.… Read the rest

Tamega & Eunate victorious at Bahia & Lucas & Neymara win Katherine Melo Pro

The final day of Cobra D’Água Bodyboarding Show Bahia 2009 took place in better conditions than yesterday, but the wind and rain made life difficult for the riders. The waves were bigger than yesterday (3-4 ft) and the crowd filled Armação Beach.

Guilherme Tâmega and Eunate Aguirre won the event and now both are leading the IBA World Ranking. Guilherme defeated Eder Luciano from Brazil while Eunate defeated Mayllae Venturin.

Perfect conditions on Estaleirinhos Beach today. Good waves with 4-6 ft and no wind, the beach was crowd and the bodyboarders got a huge show to everybody here.The day started with the Men’s quarter finals and the heats were amazing. Uri Valadão and Eder Luciano had a great fight on water and in the end Eder found a good wave to turn on the heat and make it into semifinal.… Read the rest
