What a nail biting finish to another amazing year.
The swell had dropped overnight but Confital was still serving up some perfect right-hander’s for the showdown of the year.

Both Neymara and Jeff had been eliminated prior to the final and the cards would have to fall in a perfect combination if they were to be crowned again.

First GT, then Hardy, then Winny then it was just the two Hawaiian’s that could become the 2009 IBA world Champion.

Jeff watched on as Mike Stewart entered the water to create history as a 10-time world champion, one of the greatest achievements in modern sporting history, but he had a formidable opponent to get past in Hugo Pinheiro.… Read the rest

IBA European leg has been run and won by Brazilians Neymara Carvalho and Lucas Nogueira

The last event on the E5’09 (IBA European leg) has been run and won by Brazilians Neymara Carvalho and Lucas Nogueira.

The surf was dropping and the event was finished on the Saturday to take advantage of the decreasing swell.

Neymara defeated fellow Brazilian Isabella Sousa and Lucas best Dave Winchester (Australia)

The IBA World Tour now packs up and heads towards Buzios in Brazil for a WWT & WMT event.The Women and DK riders will go from there to Venezuela for the Bodyboard Pro festival.

Both the Mens and Women’s world titles will be decided at Confital in the Canary Islands at the final Grand Slam for 2009.

Five or six riders are in contention for the crown in the Men and there are three or four potential outcomes in the Women so this year is shaping up as a fairy-tail finish for the IBAso make sure that you stay tuned to all the results.… Read the rest

Dave Hubbard takes it all

Dave Hubbard won the DK division and was crowned for the 4th time world champion. With 3 wins in 3 events, Dave had a 100% achievement this year. “I’m really happy to win all the 3 events that the DK division had. This was a very favorable year for the DK and I think that the division is gaining strength once more.” Said the champ

With small 3 feet waves, Jessica Becker won her 3rd event of the year (the others where Sopelana, Buzios and Isla de Margarita) and now goes to Canary Island very motivated. “I’m stoked to win in Isla. Ewan Donnachie is the 2009 Nomad Shark Island Challenge Champion

Shark Island, Cronulla (Saturday, August 1st, 2009) – Ewan Donnachie from Sydney’s Northern Beaches has won The 2009 Nomad Shark Island Challenge in clean 1 – 1.5m conditions to claim first prize of $10,000 over an accumulated two round points system.

Since the completion of Round 1 back on the 12th of July, riders and officials have been on stand-by waiting in anticipation for the second round to commence. The weeks that followed saw small to flat condition as Sydney basked in a stable weather pattern. Bodyboarders from Manning Great Lakes Bodyboarding Assoc. (MGBA) invite all bodyboarders to The Old Bar Beach Festival Bodyboarding Contest on Sunday 4th October. The event has been organised by the Beach Festival Committee and the recently formed MGBA, which was previously known as The Forster/Tuncurry Bodyboarding Assoc. and the Old Bar Beach Bodyboard Club.Terry McKenna, the General Manager of International Bodyboarding Assoc. (IBA) will be commentating the contest. Terry has been commentating for over 15 years and is the main commentator for the prestigious SURFEST in Newcastle . Judges include Maurice Wakeling of Bodyboarding NSW and Garth McGregor a pioneer in bodyboarding from Newcastle.

Already the contest organisers have received interest from entrants from Sydney, Port Macquarie and Newcastle. The event can take up to 64 competitors and divisions include junior, cadet, opens, women’s and drop knee.… Read the rest
