Australian surfer Gavin Coleman today (Friday 17th April) defended his World Kneeboard Title beating three fellow Australians in the Open Men’s Final of the 2009 ISA World Kneeboard Surfing Titles. Coleman led the Australians to seven of the eleven titles over the six day event. Taranaki surfer Hamish Christophers took a crowd pleasing victory in the Pro Junior Division with a barnstorming display of surfing to notch up New Zealand’s third title.

The 2009 ISA World Kneeboard Surfing Titles have been taking place at Opunake since the 11th April and today’s action took place at Arawhata Road for the sixth day in a row.… Read the rest

The ISA is honored to announce the Judging Panel selected for the 2009 Billabong ISA World Surfing Games to be held in Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica, August 1 to 8.

The ISA Judges are nominated by each National Governing Body and selected by the ISA Technical Committee formed by Alan Atkins of Australia, Marcos Bukão of Brazil and Robin de Kock of South Africa.Meet the panel of judges for the 2009 Billabong ISA World Surfing Games:

ISA launches the World Stand Up Paddle Surfing Championship

3 June 2009 – The International Surfing Association (ISA), World Governing Authority for Surfing and all its disciplines, recognized by the International Olympic Committee, is proud to announce the creation of the first ISA World Stand Up Paddle Surfing Championship in history.

Stand Up Paddle Surfing (SUP) is one of the surfing disciplines that has grown in recent years. Known in Hawaiian as Ku Hoe He’e Nalu, it is considered by many as a “new” way of surfing, but its history actually started long before in Hawaii where the Waikiki Beach Boys used to surf with outrigger paddles. They also used SUP to take pictures of the tourists that were learning to surf.By early 2000, Hawaiian surfers, including Dave Kalama, Brian Keualana, Rick Thomas, Archie Kalepa and Laird Hamilton, brought the discipline back to life.… Read the rest

Team Brazil Wins the ISA World Junior Aloha Cup

(Salinas, Ecuador) April 5, 2009 – In a dramatic come from behind victory, Team Australia was crowned the 2009 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Champions today in Salinas, Ecuador. Australians Dean Bowen and Tyler Wright won individual gold medals for Under 18 Boys and Under 18 Girls. Keanu Asing from Hawaii won the Under 16 gold medal. Team Brazil won the Aloha Cup, an Olympic style ISA specialty tag-team event.

2005 ISA World Junior Champions, Hawaii, received the team silver medal, Brazil bronze and USA copper. France placed fifth overall, South Africa sixth, New Zealand seventh, Tahiti, Peru and Costa Rica came in eighth, ninth and tenth respectively.The… Read the rest
