Jensen Wins Golden Breed Pro While Williams Takes Banana Boat Pro in Epic Noosa

NOOSA HEADS, Australia (Saturday, March 21, 2009) – With perfect 1.25 metre surf pouring through the idyllic pointbreaks at Noosa Heads today, USA surfer Taylor Jensen (San Diego) and Australia’s Chelsea Williams (Tweed Heads/NSW) won high-scoring finals of the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Longboard Qualifying Series (LQS) events, the Golden Breed Pro and Banana Boat Women’s Pro.

It was Taylor Jensen’s first Final at Noosa despite traveling to this event for the past five years and the former three-time USA Longboard Champion won the Final in convincing fashion posting three outstanding 9-point plus rides , finishing on a Final score tally on his top two rides of 18.70 to Australia’s Josh Constable on 17.15 (out of a possible 20).“The waves out there today were unbelievable, just about as good as it possibly gets for surfing longboards and I pretty much knew before the Final started that the winner would need to score a pair of 9-point plus rides,” Jensen said.… Read the rest

SURFERS TO HELP VICCO FIRE VICTIMS AT BUSHFIRE BENEFIT


A late addition to the Global Surf Industries Noosa Festival of
Surfing, presented by Golden Breed – a bushfire benefit concert
will be held on the evening of Saturday 21st March at the Good Vibes
Surf Expo in Lions Park.



At the time of going to press the nights line-up consists Afro Dizzy
Act, Pico, Golden Sound, Tim Gaze and Max Judo but more acts are
signing on every day. ‘The response from local muso’s has been unreal’
says Expo organiser Scott Cairns of Panga Productions. ‘We’re getting
calls every day from bands offering to play. Some of the members
of Band of Frequencies will be in town and they want to get involved.
Its shaping up to be a pretty cool free event.’



Volunteers will be accepting donations from the crowd and all proceeds

A glimpse into the future of women’s surfing was on display yesterday at Huntington Beach, Calif.

Thanks to 14-year-old Malia Manuel and 17-year-old Coco Ho, Hawai’i appears to be at the forefront.

Manuel won the Women’s Honda U.S. Open of Surfing contest yesterday, becoming the youngest champion in the 27-year history of the event.

Manuel, who will turn 15 next month, is a sophomore-to-be at Kapa’a High.

She beat Ho in the one-on-one final held yesterday in 1- to 3-foot waves. Ho is 17 and a senior-to-be at Elite Element Academy.

“I’m so stoked right now,” said Manuel, who is from Wailua, Kaua’i. “My sponsors gave me the wildcard into this event and I was just happy to be here. To get to surf against some of my heroes and to be in the final with my friend Coco is just something I would never have dreamed of.”… Read the rest

A true spectacle of festivities and adrenaline made up the third stage of the First Professional Circuit of the Americas Pro AM Surfing Cup…A total of 48 of the best surfers competed in the Free Short Board and Free Body Board categories at Playa Arroyo Costa Azul, in San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur, this past 25, 26 and 27th of July (2008), during three days of intense surfing in waves that reached heights of a little more than 1 ½ meters.

The event included Hip Hop and Rap competitions, skateboarding and the ever-present bikini contest.RESULTS:

Sharks seem to be coming close to shore a lot lately.

For the past week, up to 15 large tiger sharks have lingered along five miles of the Big Island’s Kohala Coast, near the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, coming within 20 yards of shore.

Several beaches have been closed on O’ahu in the past two weeks because of sightings.

And a shark attacked a surfer Tuesday at a popular Ka’a’awa surf spot called Crouching Lion.There is no definitive reason why there are more sharks near shore, though experts suggest explanations ranging from shark mating season to clearer water — which increases shark sightings, even if there are no more sharks than usual.… Read the rest
