Next month beautiful Thai women will for the first time have a shot at the Miss Bikini International crown, thanks to the launch of the Thai round of the competition, the first Miss Thailand Beach International 2011 beauty pageant, with the finals to be held in Phuket on June 5.

Thai women will for the first time have a shot at the Miss Bikini International crown.

The winner of the Phuket finals will represent Thailand in the Miss Bikini International 2011 contest in China, up against more than 80 competitors from around the world.

The Miss Bikini competition has been running since 1972 but this will be the first time anyone from Thailand has competed.

Candidates must be confident, aged between 17 and 24 years old, and at least 172 centimetres tall.… Read the rest

SURFING RAYONG Wave Magnet of the Eastern Gulf

When I first entertained the thought of looking for waves in the Eastern Gulf of Thailand, I found a few gray photos and the internet and heard tales of wind-blown chest-height waves from several friends at surfboard manufacturing giant Cobra in Chonburi.

Then I met Greg Hodge, the unequivocal pioneer of surfing in Rayong. Greg suggested I come check it out, go for a surf, and see for myself. Thailand joins the 2010 PKRA Word Tour, just 4 days after the official tour schedule was posted.

Search for Irish surfer off Thailand

search is continuing for an Irishman who went missing while surfing off the coast of Thailand earlier this week.

Michael O’Brien (24) from Templeogue in Dublin has not been seen since Tuesday when he went surfing around Koh Pahngan island.

A spokesman for the Department of Foreign Affairs said: “The department has been providing consular assistance through our consulate in Bangkok and their embassy in Malaysia to his family.

“Efforts to locate Mr O’Brien are continuing and to our knowledge no body has yet been recovered.”
