The 2006 Ingles Pro presented by Bodyboarders Paradise.

Over 40 of the world’s best female bodyboarders will converge on the Gold Coast in April for the 2006 Ingles Pro presented by Bodyboarders Paradise. Over $20,000 in prize money has drawn the best to compete in this International Bodyboarding Association (IBA) Women’s World Tour (WWT) event to be held on Surfers Paradise beach on Sunday 23rd April 2006.With the entry deadline still a month away, the event organisers, Bodyboarders Paradise, have already confirmed that over 30 of the top 48 ranked riders in the world will be attending in addition to many other high calibre professional bodyboarders. West Australia’s Taj Burrow was the man of the moment at the Rip Curl Pro after he put on a phenomenal performance at Bells Beach today.

The second event on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour was held in spectacular one to two metre (three to six feet) waves at Bells Beach in Victoria, Australia and Burrow had the huge crowd in attendance on their feet for the full 30 minutes of his heat.After an ankle injury hampered Burrow’s end of season run in 2005, he has returned in 2006 with enthusiasm to burn.

He began the year with a second placing to Kelly Slater (USA) in the first event of the tour and noted there that in 2006 he is extremely focussed and hungry for the world crown.… Read the rest

In what has been called one of the best finishes to a pro surfing event ever, the Rip Curl Pro has been won by Kelly Slater (USA).

Defeating Joel Parkinson (AUS) in amazing three metre (eight to 10 feet) freight training waves at Bells Beach, Australia, it was the first time he has scored a victory at the event since 1994.

Slater showed his true class peaking just at the right time in the final.“It’s been years and years since I’ve had a good result here and it has been a little frustrating for me,” said Slater. “But this year I stuck to my game plan and just worked with everything and relaxed.… Read the rest

In a déjà vu victory over six-time world champion Layne Beachley (AUS), Melanie Redman-Carr (AUS) has claimed her second title on the 2006 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s World Tour calendar, the US$78,300 Roxy Pro in Fiji.Redman-Carr, 30, first triumphed over Beachley, 33, in the Roxy Pro final on Australia’s Gold Coast last month. Her second win was in perfect six to ten foot (two to three metre) conditions at Fiji’s Cloudbreak Reef today. Several tour surfers said today was the best day in women’s professional surfing ever.

“Everything is transpiring in my favor, I’m really pleased,” Redman-Carr said. “Layne should have wanted to kill me after last time, but maybe she was tired. She surfed four heats today so I may have had the advantage having only surfed three times.”… Read the rest

The heaviest wave on the planet, Teahupoo, will for the next two weeks play host to the true test of the Foster’s ASP Men’s and ASP Women’s World Tours, The Billabong Pro Tahiti.

Teahupoo or “Chopes” as the break is dubbed by those who dare take the challenge, is a bone-crunching left-hander, which crashes down over extremely shallow and razor sharp coral reef, located 400 metres off shore.While the top 45 men and 17 women are only just arriving to the small fishing village of Teahupoo, over 90 of world’s most respected tube riders and local specialists have been battling it out in the Air Tahiti Nui/Von Zipper Trials.

In perfect three metre waves today, Tahitian surfers Hira Terinatoofa and Heiarii Williams both secured main event wildcards, serving notice to the top 45 men, most of whom watched the impressive display from the channel.… Read the rest
