Surfers competing in the 2006 edition of the Rip Curl Pro Search WCT are claiming that perfection has been found.

With amazingly hollow and extremely long waves pumping across the sand bank of the mystery break called La Jolla, located “somewhere in Mexico”, the crew competing on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour have been ecstatic all day claiming that waves ridden today have been some of the best of their lives.Winners and losers alike were exiting the water with huge ear-to-ear grins, such was the buzz surrounding surfing in such perfect waves, and many have claimed that “you don’t need to search any further the best wave in the world has been found.”

It is the first time an event has been held at the location, given that Rip Curl has a “floating licence” that allows them to move the event each year, and all day surfers have been stating that they are overwhelmed by the experience.… Read the rest

After surfing a tremendous final in outstanding waves Mick Fanning (AUS) has defeated Taj Burrow (AUS) to win the 2006 edition of the Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay.

The event, the sixth on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour, earlier in the week was plagued by small and inconsistent swell but this morning organisers and competitors awoke to extra-clean one to 1.5 metre (three to four feet) J-Bay lines and from the first heat on the action was nothing short of spectacular. The final itself was an incredibly exciting affair with the lead swapping and changing as the two friends went blow for blow on some amazing waves.

But in the end it was Fanning’s day as he executed some searing carves and huge floaters to score an 8.73 with four minutes to go – which eventually scored him the win.… Read the rest

Defending Champion Fanning Eliminated

Round three of the Rip Curl Pro Search WCT, located “somewhere in Mexico”, scored amazing waves yet again today.

Among the best were seven-time Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour champion Kelly Slater (USA) who is showing excellent form after returning from a nasty rib injury, and Taj Burrow who scored what was arguably the longest tube ever seen in competition.Slater, although indicating that he is still not 100 percent showed complete control in his matchup against event wildcard and ASP World Junior Champion Kekoa Bacalso and will be hard to pin down as his fitness returns throughout the event.… Read the rest

In a fantastic finish to a simply amazing event Andy Irons (HAW) has won the Rip Curl Pro Search WCT held “somewhere in Mexico” in incredible one to two metre (three to six feet) waves. Held at the long and hollow wave known only as La Jolla, Irons was the form surfer of the day and was a well-deserved winner. With the wind coming up slightly for the final of the fifth event on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour, the focus shifted to big turns rather than big barrels and Irons stepped up to the task.
