Team Australia continued its dominance of the junior surfing scene, winning the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Champions for a fifth consecutive year in New Zealand today.

In dramatic fashion, wins to Lennox Head’s Tyler Wright and Port Macquarie’s Matt Banting lifted Team Australia into the top spot.

Coming into the final day of competition ranked second behind Hawaii, Australia rallied to finish in the lead with 6015-points nearly 1000 clear of Hawaii (5038) in second and the USA (4958) in third.
Australia’s win is also their sixth team’s title victory since the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship was launched eight years ago in 2003.Australian… Read the rest

Thailand joins the 2010 PKRA Word Tour-Kite Surfing

Thailand joins the 2010 PKRA Word Tour, just 4 days after the official tour schedule was posted.

Thailand will open up the season with a Grand Slam event consisting of Freestyle, Course Racing, and Best Trick disciplines. The event to be the first professional kiteboarding event in Asia in the history of the sport, promises to be a new beginning for the sport in the region, as it is expected to attract all the top riders in the world for an exceptional display of kiteboarding in Thailand.

British Bodyboard Club 2010 Tour Announced

British Bodyboard Club announce mini-tour to decide British Champion.
The British Bodyboard Club are set to launch a tour of 4 events to decide the 2010 Open Champion it was announced today.

Chairman Rich Hall said “the concept of deciding the British Champion via a series of events rather than a single one has been in discussion for some time”.

He continued “the BSA has given us the freedom to explore the options and are quite happy to support us in this; so we’re going to progress the idea this year”.

The 4 proposed events are:
The Sorted Surf Reef competition at Boscombe on March 20-21,
The Tolcarne Wedge Air Jam in July/August
The Greenaway Pro in St Ives in September

O’Brien Wins ASP WQS 5-Star Volcom Pipeline Pro

PIPELINE, Oahu/Hawaii (Monday, February 1, 2010) – Prayers, plundered surfboards and Pipeline perfection were the order of the final day of the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) 5-Star Volcom Pipeline Pro, and local boy Jamie O’Brien avoided the drama to walk away with the win.

O’Brien, 26, clinched his third Pipeline Pro title today to take home $16,000 and 2,000 ASP WQS ratings points. Surf for the final day was in the range of 10-15-foot wave face heights.

Australian pair Anthony Walsh and Mark Mathews were second and third respectively in the final, both breaking surfboards and forced to swim to the beach during the 45-minute bout. Fourth place was Hawaii’s Danny Fuller, who posted the day’s only perfect 10 during his semi-final heat but was unable to exit several deep tubes in the final that might have scored the same.… Read the rest
