Annissa Flynn Wins Both Junior and Women’s Divisions in Quiksilver Thailand Surf Series

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 17 August, 2009 : – – Phuket-Thailand: 11 year old Annissa Flynn took both Junior and Women’s division wins yesterday the Quiksilver King of the Jungle event at Kamala Beach, coming in only briefly to change rash shirts before padding out again between the two finals. She deftly maneuvered her way through the often tricky 2-foot beachbreak during the two 20-minute final heats to capitalize on scoring opportunities, besting her rivals and coming back to the beach with incredible back-to-back wins.After yesterday’s performance, Annissa has a virtual lock on the Quiksilver Thailand Surf Series in both divisions going into the third and final event that will be held at her home break of Kata Beach from September 4-6, having won the Junior division in the first event of the series and getting second in the Womens.… Read the rest

The inaugural 2009 Surfing Hainan Open took
place on January 10thand 11that Shimei, on
China’s beautiful Hainan island. With reports of
a peaking swell for the Saturday, competitors
were in high spirits in the lead up to the contest.
As the first surfing contest in mainland China in
several years and the first ever to have
Bodyboardand Longboarddivisions the event
attracted around 20 competitors across three
divisions, attracting riders from South China,
Hong Kong and even as far afield as Korea, all
vying for top honors, and prizes from the event
sponsors.With competitors staying in Riyuebay, the morning greeted them
with sunny skies and an offshore breeze, meaning conditions
were excellent for entrants. After a short drive to the contest site
at Nanyanbay, mechanical 2-3 foot left handerswith a brisk

Bodyboarders from Manning Great Lakes Bodyboarding Assoc. (MGBA) invite all bodyboarders to The Old Bar Beach Festival Bodyboarding Contest on Sunday 4th October. The event has been organised by the Beach Festival Committee and the recently formed MGBA, which was previously known as The Forster/Tuncurry Bodyboarding Assoc. and the Old Bar Beach Bodyboard Club.Terry McKenna, the General Manager of International Bodyboarding Assoc. (IBA) will be commentating the contest. Terry has been commentating for over 15 years and is the main commentator for the prestigious SURFEST in Newcastle . Judges include Maurice Wakeling of Bodyboarding NSW and Garth McGregor a pioneer in bodyboarding from Newcastle.

Already the contest organisers have received interest from entrants from Sydney, Port Macquarie and Newcastle. The event can take up to 64 competitors and divisions include junior, cadet, opens, women’s and drop knee.… Read the rest

Two weeks after the official closing of the Billabong ISA World Surfing Games 2009, all those who took part in the event still bask in the afterglow.
It was a record breaking event in many ways. The attendance of 35 countries, the excellent organization, the consistent and perfect waves, the best level of surfing in the world, the audience of 20,000 strong that lined the beach.
The Billabong ISA World Surfing Games had everything that a world-class surfing event should have.

United States returns to the highest place in the podiumThe last time the US Team earned a place at the top spot on the podium of a World Surfing Games was in 1996. August 8, 2009 will be forever engraved in the history books of US surfing.
Ben Bourgeois, Cory Lopez, Nat Young, Austin Ware, Courtney Conlogue, Sage Erickson, Tony Silvagni and Steve Newton, through the hands of their Coach and Team Manager, Ian Cairns, were the major players that brought the gold back to the United States.… Read the rest
