To tell you the truth, I did not go to Thailand to surf. My girlfriend convinced me that it’s one of the most beautiful country on earth blessed by the most tolerant people, “Same same but different” being their hospitality baseline. During last X-mas, I had just negotiated a 2 day escape to check a completely ignored coastline in the Gulf of Thailand. But that was out of Phi-Phi island, in the Andaman Sea, only 1h30 from Phuket by ferry boat but a long way from my target area. Since Mike Kew and Chris Burkhard surftrip last September, we’ve seen some serious surf on the west shores of Thailand N°1 tourist area.

Phuket waves are usually fueled by the strong SW monsoon fetch in the Andaman Sea. From May to September, there is some decent surf to be tapped on the western coasts, the conditions obviously getting better as you head north towards the border with Myanmar.… Read the rest

2008 ASP WOMEN’S WORLD TOUR LINEUP LOCKED IN

COOLANGATTA, Australia (Wednesday, January 30, 2008) – The lineup for the 2008 ASP Women’s World Tour has been finalized following the completion of the 2007 ASP Women’s World Tour and ASP WQS seasons, the ASP wildcard being decided as well as the appropriate substitution being made for pregnancy.

The ASP Women’s World Tour is made up of the top 10 finishers from the previous season, the top 6 finishers on the ASP WQS as well as the ASP Wildcard, making for a total of 17 elite competitors. In the event of double qualification, a competitor qualifying through both the ASP Women’s World Tour and ASP WQS, the next surfer on the ASP WQS ratings is given the nod.The ASP Wildcard is decided by a tech committee comprised of physicians, surfers and tour managers who review applications for a seed on the 2008 ASP Women’s World Tour.… Read the rest

MEXICO ANNOUNCES THE FIRST PROFESSIONAL SURFING CIRCUIT, THE AMERICAS PRO AM CUP 2008

After a 40-year history of surfing as a sport practiced in Mexico, and the emergence of a number of surfing champions and legends in the country, THE AMERICAS PRO AM CUP 2008 has been organized by a group of Mexican leaders under the direction of General Director Mario Dillanes, with the intention of bringing a professional surfing circuit event to various beaches along Mexican coastlines where good surfing conditions can commonly be found.THE AMERICAS PRO AM CUP 2008 was born with the vision of encouraging and increasing the competitive level of surfers through a series of continuous events during the year on Mexican beaches.
