TEAHUPOO, Tahiti (Wednesday, May 16th, 2007) – Damien Hobgood (USA) has been crowned the 2007 Billabong Pro Tahiti Champion after beating Foster’s ASP World Tour ratings leader Mick Fanning (AUS) in a last-minute victory in 5 to 7 foot (1.5 – 2 metre) surf at Teahupoo.

Hobgood bowed out of the 2005 Billabong Pro Tahiti Final halfway through after dislocating his shoulder – a circumstance which made his win today that much more meaningful.“It’s insane – I was stoked to have another chance at it,” Hobgood said. “I feel that things happen for a reason and I did my best out here in 2005 and came up short. I replayed that wave in my mind a hundred times going, ‘I should have tried to stay in that barrel and not come out doggy-door,’ but I feel like I can put that out of my mind now.”… Read the rest

CLASSIC ZICATELA 2007

With great fun, patience and energy to begin and to finalize this past weekend, may 5th y 6th, CLASSIC ZICATELA 2007, in Revolcadero beach from Acapulco Guerrero Mexico, the event that conmemoration to the children in its day, childrens day in Mexico. All the children from 5 to 16 years old, were the winners, since this event gave them contest experience.

Childrens of Puerto Escondido Oaxaca and Acapulco were present in this celebration in their honor the parents helped the children but small to take the wave, the day Sunday they enjoyed a pie before premiacion Raul Noyola, Jose Manuel “yuco” Trujillo, Citlali Calleja, Quetzal Estrada Team VANS, and Fernanda Duran were present motivating to the small ones also a ceremony was made to remember the Vans marketing director Rafael Ortiz Caballero that to die in last days.

Kaua’i’s Hubbard rides Pipeline to world title

Kaua’i has another wave-riding world champion.

In the ultimate performance for bodyboarding, Jeff Hubbard of Lihu’e won the Rockstar Games Pipeline Pro and clinched the International Bodyboarding Association world championship in the process yesterday.

“It’s up there with getting married and being born,” said Hubbard, 31.The final day of the contest was completed in spectacular barreling waves of 6 to 10 feet yesterday at the Banzai Pipeline. The Pipeline Pro is the final event of the 2006-07 world tour, and considered the most prestigious contest in the sport.

“I knew if I could win this, there would be no question that I would be the world champ, and I deserved it,” Hubbard said.

Hubbard is the fourth Hawai’i competitor ever to win the bodyboarding world championship, and the first since Mike Stewart of Kailua, Kona, won the last of his record nine championships in 1995.… Read the rest
