What is the Khao Lak Surfing Contest?
The Khao Lak Surfing Contest is the first surfing contest on the mainland of Thailand.
The contest aims to promote surfing to the local community, help unite surfers
throughout Thailand and bring excitement and enjoyment to all who come.Why a Khao Lak Surfing Contest?
Khao Lak has the most consistent surf in Thailand! Recently surfing has become
popular and in keeping with Khao Lak, the surf community is relaxed and friendly.

The contest is organized by the Khao Lak Surfing Club, who exist to promote a positive

The Girls Go Surfing Day program originated in Australia and has largely grown since.

The Girls Go Surfing Day program originated in Australia and has largely grown since. In Indonesia the program is now in its 8th year of operation and is a huge event on the surfing calendar. It actively encourages female beginners and non-surfers to take part in customized ‘learn to surf’ lessons that gets girls out in the water experiencing the rush that only surfing provides.

The Kamala Go Surfing Contest is held at the northernmost end of Kamala Beach. This contest is in its ninth year and the contest dates are the 1st and 2nd of October. Kata Beach local Panu Visedsombut repeats as Rip Curl GromSearch Thailand champion

Kata Beach, Phuket, Thailand – Thirteen-year-old Kata Beach surfer Panu Visedsombut braved heavy winds, rain and storm-surf conditions to win the Rip Curl GromSearch Thailand for the second year in a row on Saturday. Visedsombut won every heat he surfed in on his way to the final, and also netted the highest heat total of the day. He takes home a Thailand GromSearch record 10,000 Thai Baht for the victory.

Visedsombut edged out his close friend, and fellow Kata Beach boy, Banjo Schlider, 11, in the final. Finishing in third place was Pumin Chamnan, 12, also from Kata, and in fourth was Chongchet Sroison, 16, who came all the way from Kamala, on the other side of Phuket island.

Dark storm clouds moved in over Kata Beach just before the start of the four-man final, bringing rain and gusting winds of up to 40 knots that nearly blew down the contest site.… Read the rest
