While conditions have dropped it is still near perfect for the start of the Rip Curl Pro Pipeline Masters today with waves still pumping in at around the two metre (six feet) mark.
Heats from round one of the 11th and final event on the Fosters ASP Mens World Tour are in the water now. [/i]While not showing the size of yesterdays competition the swell has changed direction slightly, making the wave shape a bit more predictable and easier to navigate. There is also more of an opportunity for surfers to attack Backdoor Pipeline the wave that breaks from right to left.
The day will begin with heat one Cory Lopez (USA), Darren ORafferty (AUS) and Shane Beschen (USA). Heats are 30 minutes in duration and the aim of the day will be to complete all 16 of round one.
Victors in the heats will go through to round three while second and third will go to round two.
Stay tuned to www.ripcurl.com or www.aspworldtour.com for the full draw plus all the news and action. A live webcast will be broadcast each day the event is on.
