SURFERS WE HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO HELP !

Right after the bombings of 01 october in Kuta and Jimbaran, IDEP
Foundation(www.IDEPfoundation.org) got in charge of the crisis center, just like they did in 2002.
IDEP is an Indonesian non-profit foundation that was established in Bali in 1999, at the height of Indonesia’s economic crisis. IDEP’s objective was to respond to urgent needs for sustainable food production and resource management, while conveying the importance of environmental education for sustainable living.
In 2001 IDEP launched a Community Based Crisis Response Program to help
local Indonesian communities to be more prepared for and to better manage
disasters… which proved efficient and visionary in 2002, after the
bombings that killed 202 people and left the toursim-based economy in poor
shape.

Now, under IDEP’s initiative, the balinese community is building-up
emergency and crisis management procedures for the future, to improve rescue
as well as support the injured locals in the long term, whatever the
‘crisis’.
For now, it’s only about speaking of ‘possibles’ and ‘what if’ but sure it’s
respectable… especially for us, surfers, who are avid users of the island
and admirative supporters of the Bali people.
What if each visiting surfer dropped 10 US dollars at IDEP office ? What if we
could set the example for other non-surfing groups ?

Cathay Seas is closely following the process and will keep the information
flowing to and from the surfing community. On our website, you will find a
detailed report of actions taken on 01 october by IDEP… more to come.
Skilled individuals and good-willing organizations can contact directly IDEP or
Cathay Seas, to avoid flooding these people under read-reply work.
