IBA, 13/10/06
Stephanie Pettersen wins Miyazaki contest scoring 10 in the finals.
With 70 girls between professional and amateur womens riders today ended the IBA Regional and the second last JBA event for 2006 at Miyazaki Japan.
There were two days of competition with womens, mens and dk division. With Huge Typhoon passing through just a day before the contest, it delivered some big surf up to 5 to 6 feet for the morning of the first day of competition, making many people surprised as it dropped fast through out the day.The sand banks didnt really handle the swell making it difficult to find good waves but at least the wind held back giving some clean conditions for the morning with light onshore winds for the afternoon. There were some good waves surfed by the professional riders and the amateur riders with even some of the worlds best finding it hard paddling out to the peak for the early morning heats.
On the second day the waves had dropped and the contest moved 5/10 mins North where the swell remain solid with still 4 feet punching waves, great for some real bodyboarding action.
The JBA style of quickly packing up and moving the event and the judges to a better venue or bank gave a unique feeling, making the riders the top priority.
The Miyazaki event is support by the local Council which is very keen indeed to help the sport. Miyazaki has great waves, awesome reef breaks and is much warmer than up north.
If you have been to Japan before Miyazaki will change your mind. It gives you an Island feeling and is surrounding by beautiful green mountains with waterfalls, bush walking and great food.
Lets pray for a future International Event. Its a perfect place
