MEXICO ANNOUNCES THE FIRST PROFESSIONAL SURFING CIRCUIT, THE AMERICAS PRO AM CUP 2008

After a 40-year history of surfing as a sport practiced in Mexico, and the emergence of a number of surfing champions and legends in the country, THE AMERICAS PRO AM CUP 2008 has been organized by a group of Mexican leaders under the direction of General Director Mario Dillanes, with the intention of bringing a professional surfing circuit event to various beaches along Mexican coastlines where good surfing conditions can commonly be found.THE AMERICAS PRO AM CUP 2008 was born with the vision of encouraging and increasing the competitive level of surfers through a series of continuous events during the year on Mexican beaches. The series will be open internationally but with a limited quota;, prizes will be awarded in cash for first places as well as performance being rated on a point system, with champions being announced at the end of each year in the categories of YOUTH SHORT BOARD( 21-years and under), LONG BOARD, WOMEN’S SHORT BOARD and the stellar OPEN SHORT BOARD .
Having THE AMERICAS PRO AM CUP 2008 circuit undertaken in Mexican territory will allow the national media to help promote and bring the sport and it’s professional practitioners into general public awareness along with the attractions of Mexican beaches and destinations. The events will be undertaken in a spirit of festivity, sun, beach, bikinis, music and general entertainment for the enjoyment of all, under the motto ‘Let’s take care of the waters of Mexico’, promoting sports tourism and ecological awareness.
The 1st circuit of the AMERICAS PRO AM CUP 2008 will take place in Cancun, Quintana Roo at Playa Delfines from the 18th until the 27th of January 2008.
