Big Names Visit Perth for ASP Grade-4 Chill Pro Junior
TRIGG POINT, Western Australia (Tuesday, 26, 2009) – Trigg Point, Western Australia will host some of Australia’s best junior surfing talents for the upcoming Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Grade-4 Men’s and Grade-1 Womenls Chill Pro Junior presented by the City of Stirling.

Headlining the event is the current ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS) No. 1, Owen Wright, who has had a stellar year so far with three consecutive ASP Pro Junior victories, solid results in a number of high-rated ASP WQS events and a wildcard into event No. 2 of 10 on the 2009 ASP World Tour, the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, where he defeated rising star Dane Reynolds and reigning nine-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater.Joining Owen are his younger sisters Kirby and Tyler Wright, who will compete in the ASP Grade-1 Women’s Pro Junior.
Tyler made headlines last year when she defeated then reigning ASP Women’s World Champion Stephanie Gilmore as a wildcard at the Beachley Classic and became the youngest surfer ever to win an ASP World Tour event.
Making their way over from the East Coast to push the level of surfing are the current ASP Australasia Pro Junior No. 9 Dean Bowen (Gerroa, NSW), powerful North Narrabeen surfer Davey Cathels and Byron Bay’s Garrett Parkes.
Local standouts for the men’s event include Shaun Howe (Kalbarri), Dave Delroy-Carr (Margaret River), Mitch Taylor (Karrinyup), Jerome Forrest (Wannanup) and Matt Baldock (Margaret River).
Representing the locals in the girls event are Laura and Bronte McCaulay (Cowaramup), the daughters of former ASP World No. 3, Dave McCaulay, along with Mikaela Greene (Yallingup) and Felicity Palmateer (Hillarys).
The Chill Pro Junior is presented by the City of Stirling and is proudly supported by Surfing Western Australia, 92.9, Australian Surfing Life, Reef, Filtrate Eyewear, Department of Sport and Recreation and sanctioned by ASP Australasia.
