MR. LOZANO SURFER OF THE YEAR

Angelo Lozano was awarded as the surfer of the year. The Mexican Surfing Federation awarded the charger from Puerto Escondido because of his triumph in the PXM International Vans Pro. Lozano received the award during the closing of the national surf circuit.“I’m really happy for this acknowledgement, this is for my triumph in the ALAS in El Salvador and for the WQS in Puerto last year. The federation rewarded also Diego Cadena and Dylan Southworth for their good performances during this year. Now, I’m going to Costa Rica to represent my country with an extra motivation” said Angelo to Surfpress from California.
The Mexican surfer was competing in the trials of the oldest North American Surfing event, the Hurley US Open of Surfing. Angelo lacked two heats to reach the main event. “Unluckily waves weren’t on my side on the second heat, nevertheless I obtained some points for the ranking. My goal for this year is to end up on the top 200, I think this will be good because this is the first year that I´m doing at least the 7 contests that they count on the WQS tour. This year, I will also compete in the Quiksilver Pro from Puerto (Mexico), two from Brazil (six stars) and another six-stars in Canada.”
TRAINING WITH IAN CAIRNS
During his stay in California, the member of the Squalo team, took the chance to train with Ian Cairns, (USA’s team coach), who is known for his job with surfers such as Jordy Smith, Timmy Reyes, Bret Simpson and Austin Ware. “Gary Linden gave me the possibility to work with such a prestigiuos trainer”.
While he was in California, Angelo also took the chance to get his new quiver shaped by Gary Linden, and to exchange ideas with this famous Californian shaper.

COSTA RICA MISSION
Angelo’s next mission will be the Billabong ISA World Surfing Games. This event will take place at Playa Hermosa, Jacó (Costa Rica) from August 1-8. The Mexican team will be integrated by Diego Cadena, Dylan Southworth, José Manuel Trujillo and Lozano in Open, Nadia Buenrostro and Pamela Verboonen in girls, and Patricio González and Tzahui Poo in longboard.
“We will see a great level of surfing in Costa Rica, Mexico has a good team to achieve an excellent performance. I think Latin surfers will have a great World Championship, we have been surfing in Costa Rica for many years now and we know its waves pretty well, besides Latin surfing has been showing an spectacular growth in the last years”.

MR. LOZANO EL SURFISTA DEL AÑO
Ángelo Lozano fue reconocido como el surfista del año, la Federación Mexicana de Surf concedió el reconocimiento al charger de Puerto Escondido por su triunfo en el PXM International Vans Pro, el premio le fue entregado en el marco del cierre del circuito nacional de surf.
“Estoy muy contento por este reconocimiento, el premio llega por el triunfo del ALAS en El Salvador y por el WQS de Puerto, también premiaron a Diego Cadena y a Dylan Southworth por sus muy buenas actuaciones a lo largo del año. Ahora iré a Costa Rica a representar a mi país con una motivación extra”, expresó Ángelo a Surfpress desde California.
Con motivo del Hurley US Open of Surfing, el mexicano estuvo compitiendo en los trials del evento más antiguo del surfing norteamericano. A sólo dos heats para llegar al main event estuvo Ángelo. “Lamentablemente las olas no me acompañaron en el segundo heat, de todas formas logré sumar algunos puntos para el ranking. Mi meta para este año es tratar de quedar en el top 200, considero que sería algo muy bueno ya que es mi primer año haciendo varias fechas del tour. De aquí a fin de año competiré en el Quiksilver Pro de Puerto (México), dos de Brasil (seis estrellas) y otro seis estrellas en Canadá”.
ENTRENANDO CON IAN CAIRNS
Durante la estadía en California, el integrante del team Squalo aprovechó para entrenar con Ian Cairns (coach del team USA), conocido por su trabajo junto a surfistas de la clase de Jordy Smith, Timmy Reyes, Bret Simpson y Austin Ware. “Gary Linden fue quien me consiguió la oportunidad de trabajar con un entrenador tan prestigiado”.
Además de competir en el Hurley US Open of Surfing, Ángelo aprovechó la estadía en California para armarse con el nuevo quiver shapeado por Gary Linden, y para intercambiar ideas con el afamado shaper californiano.
MISIÓN COSTA RICA
La próxima misión de Ángelo serán los Billabong ISA World Surfing Games, evento que tendrá lugar en Playa Hermosa, Jacó (Costa Rica) del 1 al 8 de agosto. El team azteca estará integrado por Diego Cadena, Dylan Southworth, José Manuel Trujillo y el propio Lozano en Open, Nadia Buenrostro y Pamela Verboonen serán las damas del equipo, y Patricio González y Tzahui Poo los longboarders.
“Se verá un gran nivel en Costa Rica, México tiene un muy buen equipo para lograr un excelente desempeño. Creo que los latinos tendremos un gran mundial, hace muchos años que vamos a surfear a Costa Rica y conocemos muy bien la ola, además el surfing latino viene demostrando gran crecimiento año tras año”.
