Phuket was honoured to have Bethany Hamilton visit in her quest to help and support children living in poverty. Her trip was organised by TAT, World Vision and Rip Curl and she came to Patong Beach on Sunday 28th of August 2005 to run a surf clinic for the local up and coming Thai surfers.Bethany suffered a shark attack in 2003 where she lost her arm, but faught against the odds to become an ambassador for surfing and now participates in fundraising activities around the world.

Bethany is working with World vision to raise awareness of the issues and challenges facing millions of children with disabilities in the developing world. Sadly, these children are often ostracized and lack basic support and services to function in society.

Bethany has a fundraising page through which individuals can contribute to World Vision programs helping these children: www.justgiving.com/pfp/bethanyhamilton

Bethany aspires to be an ambassador for surfing and for the world’s children living in poverty, and in future travels with World Vision she plans to combine these two passions.
