Over 40 of the worlds best female bodyboarders will converge on the Gold Coast in April for the 2006 Ingles Pro presented by Bodyboarders Paradise. Over $20,000 in prize money has drawn the best to compete in this International Bodyboarding Association (IBA) Womens World Tour (WWT) event to be held on Surfers Paradise beach on Sunday 23rd April 2006.With the entry deadline still a month away, the event organisers, Bodyboarders Paradise, have already confirmed that over 30 of the top 48 ranked riders in the world will be attending in addition to many other high calibre professional bodyboarders. Some of the fantastic athletes you will be able to see at the event include:
Kira Llewellyn, when not travelling the world, lives just up the road on the Sunshine Coast and will be attending the Ingles Pro on the back of a bumper year. After many years of hard work at her sport, Kira deservedly took out the World Title last year. Not content with bringing the bodyboarding title back to Australia, Kira works tirelessly to improve the profile of womens bodyboarding worldwide.
A firm supporter of the Ingles Pro, Kira won the 2004 Gold Coast event and after missing out on the lead position in 2005 will be back to reclaim her Gold Coast title. Make sure you dont miss out on seeing the world champion in action!
Lilly Pollard, from North Entrance in New South Wales, will be fierce competition at the Ingles Pro in 2006. This talented bodyboarder is ranked seventh in the world and has not attended the event before, saving the contenders a bit of competition.
Not in 2006 though. Lilly, who writes a monthly health and fitness column for Chik magazine and a womens news column for bodyboarding magazine Riptide, will be hitting Surfers Beach in April to vie for the title.
Mihi Wells, is a New Zealander who has attended the event in 2004 and 2005 as an amateur. This amazing woman has travelled the world and competed in events at such a high standard that she is currently 23rd on the world rankings despite still being an amateur! In addition to all this she is the senior lecturer and academic advisor at Manukau Institute of Technology School of Sport and is studying part time completing my Masters through Waikato University. Wow!
Mihis biggest highlight in the last year was receiving the World Womens Amateur Title and having the NZ team (boys only) do the haka for her. Maybe some of you local Kiwi boys can get down there and support Mihi just like when she is at home!
