Surfing Photos of Ranong

Back to Thailand Surf Photo Gallery

Ranong sits on Thailand’s far northern Andaman coast, close to the Myanmar border, and is known more for its untouched coastline than for surfing. These photos of Ranong show the natural conditions you can expect along this quiet stretch of coast.

Unlike Phuket or Khao Lak, Ranong doesn’t regularly pick up clean, surfable waves. The coastline here is more protected and often affected by wind and local conditions, so consistent surf is rare.

That said, during stronger weather systems or passing swell, you may occasionally see small waves. This gallery gives you a feel for the coastline, water conditions, and overall remote vibe of the area.

Can You Surf in Ranong?

Surfing in Ranong is not common. While it faces the Andaman Sea, it doesn’t receive the same consistent swell as the main surf areas further south.

  • Surf: Very limited
  • Best chance: Occasional storm swell
  • Conditions: Often wind-affected
  • Best for: Exploring, nature, quiet beaches
