Le Méridien Phuket Beach Resort sits on secluded Relax Bay, just south of Patong on Phuket’s west coast. It is one of those Phuket hotels that feels a bit tucked away, but still keeps you close enough to Patong if you want shopping, restaurants or nightlife without sleeping in the middle of it.
This page is a little different from my other hotel pages because I used to work here. So it is not just another scraped hotel listing with a few old prices and review numbers stuck on it. I know the bay, the beach and the general feel of the place, and Relax Bay is still one of the better resort locations on this side of Phuket.

The main thing that makes Le Méridien Phuket Beach Resort stand out is the location. Relax Bay feels private and protected, with clean white sand, clear water in the dry season and a proper resort beach setting. You are not in Patong itself, but you are close enough to get there quickly when you want the restaurants, shops or nightlife.
That balance is the reason this resort has worked so well for so long. You get a quieter bay and a full resort setup, without being cut off from the busiest tourist area on the island. For many people, that is a much better mix than staying right on Patong Beach.

Why Stay at Relax Bay?
Relax Bay is the big reason to stay here. It is a small bay between Patong and Karon, with the resort sitting right behind the beach. It feels more private than most Phuket resort beaches, mostly because you are not sharing the sand with half the island and a row of jet skis.
Patong is only a short drive away, so you can still go out for shopping, food and nightlife when you want it. Then you can come back to a quieter beach and pretend you are a sensible person again by breakfast.
Rooms and Suites
Le Méridien Phuket Beach Resort is a large full-service resort with a wide range of rooms and suites. The rooms have traditionally been generous in size, with balconies and a choice of garden, pool or ocean views depending on the room category.
Older room lists mentioned Superior Garden View, Superior Pool View, Deluxe Ocean View, Junior Suites, Terrace Suites, Superior Suites and Royal Suites. These names and room categories may change over time, so check the current Agoda listing before booking if a particular room type matters to you.
Food, Facilities and Resort Life
Le Méridien has always been a proper resort-style hotel, with a good range of restaurants, bars and activities. There are usually plenty of food options, from buffet-style meals through to Thai and international choices, so it is easy enough to stay around the resort if you do not feel like heading into Patong.
The resort has traditionally offered a large range of land and water-based activities, including swimming pools, tennis, squash, volleyball, table tennis, fitness options, kids activities, snorkelling and watersports. Check the current hotel details before booking, as facilities can change over time.

Surfing at Relax Bay
In the monsoon season, Relax Bay can have some fun surf. It is not always working, and like most Phuket surf spots, conditions depend on swell, wind and tide. But when it is on, it can be a very nice little setup right in front of the resort.
The bay also has rocky headlands and coral areas, so it is worth knowing where you are paddling out. If you are new to Phuket surf, read more about the spot before jumping in. Pretty water does not always mean harmless water, unfortunately.
A Personal Note
I used to work at Le Méridien Phuket Beach Resort, so I have a bit of history with this place. It is one of the few large Phuket resorts where the location really does most of the talking. Relax Bay gives it a different feel from the hotels lined up along the main beach roads.
It will not suit everyone. If you want to be able to step straight into Patong nightlife, stay in Patong. If you want a quieter resort beach with Patong nearby when needed, Le Méridien makes more sense. That is the simple version, which is usually the useful one.
