ARS
- ARS
- is a combination of an aerial, an el rollo and a 360.
Ideally all done while in the air, in the beginning you will land backwards facing the wave and have to do the remainder 180 turn to complete this trick, like you would do for a normal 360.
- Choose a wave that has enough power to provide a pitching lip
- Hit the lip with a good speed
- Once you feel getting pushed out in the air, arch your back and head to start your El Rollo
- After completed your El Rollo, start the 360 by throwing your body towards the wave. (See the 360 and El Rollo details above)
- After landing, re engage your rail to gain speed for the next move.
Back flip
-
A Back flip
-
is exactly the same move as in gymnastic; it 's a full rotation backwards with a landing facing the wave , it should be followed by a 180 turn to get back in the right direction.
- Choose a wave that has enough power to provide a pitching lip
- Hit the lip with a good speed but this time you have to hit it almost vertically and not on the side (like for an Air or an El Rollo)
- Once you feel getting pushed out in the air, arch your back and head and throw all your weight backwards. In the meantime, lift up and cross both legs.
- After landing , re engage your rail to gain speed for the next move. This trick is very difficult and can be hurtful due to the usual very tough landing.
Front flip
-
A front flip
-
is a full rotation forwards with a landing directly in the right position ready for the next move.
- Choose a wave that has enough power to provide a pitching lip
- Hit the lip with a good speed as you want to go first for an air
- Once you feel getting pushed out in the air, throw all your weight forwards. And in the meantime, lift up and cross both legs.
- After landing , re engage your rail to gain speed for the next move.

is doing two El Rollos while still in the air.(invented by Mike Eppelstun in the 90's)
Ruin your back combos with two different maneuvers

is a combination of an El Rollo followed by a front flip before landing. This trick was invented by Mike Stewart (several times world champion)
Bodyboarding Maneuvers Update
When I was previously talking about this backflip to Rollo, I was half serious .years later, here is an update on the latest insane tricks; for the technical description, just refer to the previous chapters, basic maneuvers and intermediate combinations.
This is what I said in 2006. "First learn to master the basic and intermediate maneuvers by doing them on every part of the wave; then you can let go your imagination and pull a back flip followed by an El Rollo, or a 360 Reverse Air followed by a Reverse Rollo!
If you can do it, just name it as you wish because you will be probably the first to do so!
-
The Tic Roll
-
yes, the backflip to El Rollo has a name! this trick was first executed by a 12 year old bodyboarding prodigy, Tanner Mc Daniels who is trained by no one else but Mike Stewart !
Tanner has also invented another trick called the Angry Dragon which is describe himself as a reverse back flip..
Stone Flip
-
The Stone Flip
-
this is a double el rollo followed by a Spin, which can also be called a Rollo to A.R.S
Invert to Reverse Air
if I am not wrong, there is no official name for this trick, in the video Julien Miremont is showing us what it looks like (@ 0.30 minute mark)
The Gainer Flip
The Gainer Flip was created by David Tuarau, bodyboarder from Tahiti, French Polynesia.
Check this video from Tahiti the trick is executed by David Tuarau
The Devert

The Devert

This is an invert to reverse El Rollo in this video David Phillips
As you can see, these combos tricks are 'just' the combination of basic and/or intermediate moves to execute them you need a maximum of speed and a pitching lip so you can get high enough to do two (or more!) different moves while still in the air.
