Surfing Koh Chang Thailand

Surfing Koh Chang

Koh Chang is an island East of Bangkok, in the south China Sea. Not much is known of the surf here, but there are a few local surfers that live here. This photo was sent in by Laurent from Bangkok. Looks like it has plenty of potential.

Ko Chang usually works with the south west monsoon from May to September, as it sits up in the gulf of Thailand and so needs southerly swells to reach it. One place to surf there is Sai Kaow Beach (white sand beach) on the west coast of the island. The next beach towards the south Hat Tha Nam (Lonely Beach) also gets waves when conditions are right and is a draw card for backpackers with many small bungalows on the beach. There are a couple of other good waves on the surrounding islands, such as Koh Kut and Koh Mak.

A nice island to stay at to relax and if you are there at the right time some fun waves to enjoy also.

We have done our best to go surfing in Thailand as much as possible and to include our personal experiences of this beach and other surf spots in Thailand-Since 2000, we are the original surfing Phuket guide someone's gotta do it!!
